Dealership oilchange....

OK so I am clost to buying a cobalt today...

anyway the only thing we are waiting on is the oilchanges. I told the sales man I wanted the "oilchanges for life" or the one for 5 years what ever they offered.

He said he wasnt aware that they had one and said he would check with the service manager. He called me back today and said they dont have one or they do but require a co-pay for the synthetic oil or something.

I asked him to check into and see what that scenerio would cost and also to check and see what the dealership charges for an oilchange. I dont see the purpose of paying 100 dollars for an oilchange every 3-6 thousand miles. I hope they have some type of decent oilchange plan....

This is Nucar Chevrolet, one of hte biggest dealers here in delaware. OMG...

Just out of curiousity my brother has a Saturn Ion Redline (Cvenom) on these forums and ion redline forums. Anyway he got the oilchanges for the life of his vehicle I believe from his saturn dealer. I was wondering if I could go there and sign up for the plan he did and get the oilchanges done there for my cobalt? It is closer too.

GM may own Saturn but that does not mean you get with Chev what you get with Saturn.
I can see saving money but if you are to cheap to pay for your oil buy a Ion R\L and get the oil changes with Saturn.

It's a Dealership promotion, not a GM promo.

Yeah strictly a dealer thing. I got my oilchanges and tire rotations free for one year without even asking for it, since appearantly I buy too many cars there. (I dont like to change the inspection sticker I guess so I always trade them in before then j/k lol but thats about how often I trade vehicles)

Oil change is 60 bux for me and that is in washington dc so it's uber expensive.

I would count on an oil change every 7000 to 9000 miles depending on how you drive. It's really just about the same cost as regular oil changes every 3k when you break it down and you don't waste as much oil.

If you dont get it at the time of purchase your most likely S.O.L.

Oil change is $60 becuase we have to use the expensive oil. But my first one was free.Did your dealership tell you it was $100? If so, you're getting ripped off and might want to try other GM Dealerships, if you live near an I.G Burton, thats where I bought my car and go for service, but if your upstate it would prolly be a hell of a ride to Milford or Seaford.

So... what's the point of buying good oil and a cheap filter?
Isn't that kinda counter-productive?

Well good news!

I did purchase my SS today. He went over oilchanges and there are 2 things.

My first oil change is free.

They offer 2 types of oil changes.

39.95 Pennzoil synthetic
59.95 Mobil 1 synthetic

so I can do which ever one. THe oil meter in the car is what the dealership said they go by, they said when it gets down to 20% or below its a good time to bring the car in for an oilchange. THey recomend the first oilchange before 3000 miles.

why does it "have" to be mobil ? because it's got a sticker on the cap ? you can run other synthetics, just remember not all of them will last 7000 miles like the mobil

While I agree that you should be able to run any synthetic brand you would like, the warranty policy specifies that you must use the recommended oil to maintain full coverage, and the only "recommended" oil is Mobil1 syn for the SS. If you have engine problems, and the dealer refuses to fix your engine b/c you used something other than Mobil1, they are huge a$$e$, but technically, they could probably do it - at that point, you can always find a dealer that has some common sense. ... just my $.02

but you have to prove to them that you changed the oil at the correct intervals for proper maintenance with a receipt of the maintenance and the log in the back of your owners manual. If their are any problems like that, the first thing they are going to check is if you maintained your vehicle properly and to prove that their must be proper documentation of the maintenance that has been done including receipt of the work and a lot entry by the mechanic or the person who did the maintenance in the owners manual. Of course if you got a oil change at a shop and had the receipt for it, it will list what oil was used and how much of it was put in as line items of work that was done. If you don’t have that documentation, they will not validate that the vehicle was properly maintained. I learned the hard way.

that is all

Yeah, i don't think so, and if they do... they have way too much time on their hands. Is there a way for them to actually check the make? If so, that's crazy...

As long as the synthetic oil is GM4718M approved that means GM approves of it to go in the vehicle
