Doorlocks for Dummies

Okay last night i just realized that the cobalt ss/sc will not let you lock the doors with the keys in the ignition. I got home from work at midnight and locked the doors from the inside and i heard wshh wshh ... they lock then unlock. Thought it was a neat feature.

Uhhhh car on or off? Because when my SC is on and I get to like 3 miles an hour the door automatically lock. They then unlock when the ignition is turned off.

Yes... This is to prevent you from locking your keys in it. It is suppose to do that!

Sounds like a more convenient sytem than my '88 BMW. It will only allow you to lock the doors when they are already closed, so you have to either be inside or use the key from the outside. One featuer is pretty cool though, the 'double-locking' option. If I turn the key 45* in the door all locks (doors, trunk, gas filler door) simply lock. If I turn it 90* though it double-locks which means that they can only be unlocked with the key from the driver's door or the trunk. You could effectively lock someone in the car because it won't even allow the lock knobs to work.

Alot of new cars have this feature...it should let you lock the doors if the keys are in the ignition...just not if the door is open, this prevents you from locking your keys in the car, while the car is running.

Thats a pretty cool feature. Certain features such as this should be standard on all makes and models of cars...like Subaru with the headlights thing...turn off the car the headlights go off automatically.

Yeah it works great if you leave your key in the ignition. I turned off my car and went to put my window up after putting my keys in the cup holder. Then got out of my car, locked it and started walking to class. About 50 ft. later I realized what I did and had to call my Dad to bail me out. I haven't made that mistake again.
