Downpipe? Up-pipe?

Quick questions. Anyone's input will work.

1. What is the difference between a downpipe & an up-pipe?
2. Without a turbo or supercharged application, how much will a downpipe really help your car? Say...on the 2.2 or 2.4?

I figured this would be a bit of knowledge for anyone who doesn't know...

1. Depends on who is saying it. Alot of the SS/SC talk about their b-pipe coming from their exhaust manifold/header that goes downwards as their "downpipe" when really...it isn't. It's called the B-Pipe.

A downpipe is actually referred to turbocharged setups. The pipe coming from the turbine exhaust outlet has a pipe that literally goes straight down.

Maybe I'm picking at it...who cares.

2. No one can give you power gain estimates without misleading you.

So what I'm really referring to (WITHOUT turbo setup) is a b-pipe? What does "b-pipe" stand for?

an uppipe connects the exhaust manifold to the turbo. This section has a catalytic convertor. It houses an EGT sensor to monitor cat temps

a downpipe connects the manifold to the catback.

Que?!

A turbocharger connects directly to the manifold...there is no pipe that connects between the 2.

A downpipe can connect either to the catalytic converter or to the rest of the exhaust system (it wouldn't be called a cat-back if there is no cat) if you have a straight piped setup.
