18 ft pound of torque is the spec for the drain plug,Thats the same for the filter cap.
THats a little more than hand tight because they both have a O rings and rubber washer.

Has anyone used the magnetic drain plug yet? Does it pick up anything after an oil change? I wouldn't mind getting one, anything it picks up is only better right, won't hurt.

I've used them on other cars and have always found some metal fragments when doing an oil change.

For now I have a very strong button magnet on my drain plug, which I've done in the past with a new car and have seen fragments upon the first oil change. I put it on with less than 20 miles.

Still trying to find out what the tread size is. Think it's a M12X1.75 but not sure.

For those with the magnetic plugs, did you notice the head of the nut being a millimeter or two smaller. The stock plug nut is a 15mm and the magnectic one I got was either a 13mm or 14mm, I don't remember. Anyways, I never put it becuase I was worried I might have got the wrong one.

The "nut" size being different is common with this type of hardware mostly due to vendor issues. This anomoly I have right now with 2 of my cars.

If the plug screws in easily and feels tight, you should be ok.

IMO and from past experience, while it's not going to solve all issues, it's very cheap insurance.
