Drop Question

Will lowering the Cobalt SS with proper lowering springs have any negative effects? Will it effect the handling in any ways, and can it cause the shocks to wear out faster because they are compressed more constantly? I think that this car needs to be lowered, it would look alot sportier. How low do you think you can drop a cobalt before speed bumps and curbs will become a problem? My IROC grinds on ant hills.

let it be

with a performance suspension standard on the SS i wouldnt see why you would wanna change anything in that category.. and i dont know where you live but here in jersey we have some horrible roads.. im talking bumps in roads that are 60mph you have to slow to about 20 and take them on an angle just so you don't bottom out on your bumper.. imo i wouldnt. unless GM makes the springs

If you want to lower the cobalt without any adverse effects you need to Eiback pro series coil with Knoi red struts. This package has seem to be the best with the cavalier, grant-it, it rides a little rougher but can handle the potholes and bumps. I had this package on my 98 z24 and I was utterly pleased with its performance. Koni does offer lifetime warrenty on the struts. I don't know if Koni has developed a strut arangement for the Cobalt yet but the US headquarters is about 5 minute froim my house and I can check with them. If they have not developed anything yet thay have everything at there disposal to make something, they just need you performance numbers with the wieght.

It WILL affect handling, for the better! And you can use the Eibach pro-kit or any others that lower it in that approximate area without struts for about a year safely but i'd plan on getting some just so you can compliment your lowered car with better handling and longer suspension life.

I think the Redline guys have been using lowering springs from Sprint, and said the eibach were not working out that well. Apparently the Sprints increase handling without much of a ride penalty, of course that is the owner's opinion.
