Dumb question?

OK so why do some SS/SCs have just the SS and Supercharged emblems mounted high on the doors and others have them mounted low on the doors with another GM badge on the fender? Is this different form year to year or is there an indication of some sort of option? I can't seem to make sense of it...

Sorry to steal other people's pictures but I want to show what I am talking about...

I believe it is just due to different production years.

05 = up high. My ex and I actually discovered why this is by seeing it on a Malibu SS. On the Malibus they have the door guard trim piece on the door like the 2.2 Cobalts have. More than likely GM intended to put the same trim on the SS/SC with the SS badge above it like on the Malibu. But at the last minute they must have decided against the trim, but didn't bother to move the badge.

06+ = bottom of door
