E85 Prices to increase?

President Barack Obama announced emergency measures Monday to ease the impact of the worst drought in half a century, but stopped short of waiving the government’s requirement that a large portion of the now-shriveled corn crop be diverted to make ethanol.
Obama announced that the Department of Agriculture will buy up to $170 million of pork, lamb, chicken and catfish to help support farmers suffering from the drought. The food purchases will go toward "food nutrition assistance" programs, like food banks.
During a campaign stop in Iowa, a key battleground state, Obama blamed Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan for blocking a farm bill that could help voters in Iowa and elsewhere cope with a crippling drought as both candidates campaigned in the important Midwestern battleground state.

"If you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities," Obama said in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
On Friday, the government confirmed what cattle ranchers, pork farmers and poultry producers have feared as this summer’s deepening drought has destroyed much of this year's corn crop.

What do you guys think? Wonder how much it will increase if he does remove the mandate

whats not to believe.. the drought facts, or the fact that ethanol prices will hike because of the drought?

Corn got hit hard by the drought. luckily here in WI we've been gettin rain weekly now otherwise we wouldn't have been any better off as we got no rain in june. any way you look at it, you're going to get hit by high prices in something sooner or later from this dry weather.

unrelated: but gas has shot up like a **** these last few weeks.. I went from $3.55/gal to $4.40/gal in less than 2 weeks

They usually price fix it with relation to gas prices. I've noticed that despite E85 having almost nothing to do with gasoline, that they always price it at a set percentage of the cost of gas. Do the math once and then watch it go up and down. You'll see what I mean. They probably do this based on the MPGs you get on it with respect to gas.

ya ive noticed that as well stamina. and people fail to realize supply and demand. farmers will only swtich over to selling towards food if they make more profit doing so. and only then will ethanol prices rise. but this rise will be capped at whatever the price of food is, at that point farmers would then sell to ethanol and the price would level out

Their allready making it out of sugar cane which is a much better way to make it . Less corn will be needed as they use more and more cane. All fuel in Brazil is E made from cane

am I the only one reading this correctly?

Doesn't this mean the only thing he didn't do was lift that requirement? So they would still be making ethanol at the same rate.....

Yeah, apparently from the article President Obama was close to stopping the mandate that a portion of corn is made into Ethanol.

It will be that bad if you beat on it constantly. I know some guys who hit 23-25 mpg with E as long as they drive normal. I was planning on doing E85 once I get moved into my new place.

I don't really beat on it. I just like to hear the occasional whine

I wish I could at least have the ability to complain about the prices of E85 up here. I think there is 3 stations for all of Ontario. You U.S guys are very lucky to have access to it not to mention you have much more stable normal gas as well seeing how they always change the blends on us because of the temperatures changes with the seasons. Also, 1 liter if 94 is $1.50 here or $5.67 a u.s gallon.

The price of E85 doesn't bother me. Because it isn't available in my area. :P
