electronic throttle limited traction
electronic throttle limited traction
hey guys i have a 07 LS Sedan, with no traction control i believe. It has no traction light on the dash or a button of any kid, and it is a base model with no power or ABS.
Everyonce in a while in the rain, I will spin the tires abit for fun, most of the time, when i do that the throttle just cuts and I cant accelerate. But then other times it doesnt and I do a decent burnout (not really the intention just messing around).
So i know it really isnt traction control because sometimes it just doesnt kick in, ive tried being in L low gear with the ebrake clicked 1 up and it doesnt do anything to help.
So whats going here exactly? i see many of these threads all on SS cobalts though.

ARRRG such a pain, i havent had this cobalt through the winter (previously my girls car), and I like to have fun in the snow!!! it will really suck with traction control plus that limits ease of getting out of the snow when its deep.
on soft turns from a stop i can get it to keep spining, not in a turn and not striaght but a gradual slight turn take off. kind hard to explain, at least im leaving the stock stupid cobalt phase this week, just got 16'' black enkeis, tinted windows and a few other goodies, still a lame ole base model but it looks better.
Is it a possibility that when you do it in the rain that you spin the tires and spins so fast that the spedometer is reading very high and possibly at 105+ and hits the factory govenor? Or it's a safety feature by GM so that you don't ruin something by excessively spinning your tires and dumping fuel into your engine at a high RPM.
Op, are you an auto? I asked around and everybody said that all autos have traction control standard. And you can turn it off by wiring a switch into your parking brake, making your car think that its on. Because for some reason the parking brake turns it off
Mine does this too, and I'm all stock performance wise, lol. I have this problem in the rain, but I haven't driven this car in the snow yet but I'm expecting it now. Glad to know in not the only one
Its in the tune.
I posted in drumrushs build thread about it.
My tuner and I combed through the tune (we thought everything was disabled) but theres a max torque setting (not a table) that has to be MAXED out (6042 is the number i think)

just read this in a overview of the Cobalt on:
2007 Chevrolet Cobalt - Top Speed
"Enhanced traction system (ETS) is integral with automatic-equipped Cobalts with ABS. ETS enhances traction by adjusting engine torque if wheel slip is detected."
My LS does NOT have ABS, and its only like 70% of the time that this torque cut kicks in, i have spun right through it before.
What does Trifecta charge? im just going off my previous vechicles that ive tuned, usually around $400-500 for a SCT tuner for my last couple of fords.

$300 or you could find someone local with HP tuners for cheaper.
Basically the ECM calculates torque and will shut it down if it exceeds the number.
Before the tune i also could do burn outs too but once it hit 2nd gear it would shut down.

cool. ya because by default it should disable the traction control if the transmission is in L or the parking brake is engaged.
like i said it might be a glitch in the TCM that requires an update.

but what im trying to get at here is that it really almost isnt a traction control system, i can spin the tires for a few seconds then it kicks in or sometimes spin them all the way and it doesnt kick in, all it does is cut the throttle it doesnt apply the brakes.
and like I said theres no traction control lights or anything even on start up, i got a PM from GM consultant or something and ive got to shoot her over the VIN to my car after work (in the wifes car now)
