exhaust options
exhaust options
I have a 2.2 ls (yeah i know, i cheaped out but its just a daily driver) I'm looking for a few ways to get the mpg's off since i drive 50 miles a day, $2.50 gas really adds up like that. I've already de-stupidified the intake by taking that lower muffler part off, i got 3-4 mpg there. The next step I want to take is with the exhaust; BUT I don't want something loud or annoying. I'm thinking gmpp is the way to go, (http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...b-W50C144.aspx ) they have 2 versions that appear to be simular, I'm sure flow is pretty close to the same between the two, so the real question is sound.
I'm wanting something tame but deep, not in the least bit ricey. are there any sound clips avliable anyone knows of?
what kind of mpg gains have people seen with exhaust mods? It might not even be worth doing.
what about an SS catback? I assume they are more free flowing than the 2.2 and they have got to be cheaper.
thanks in advance!

I put a K&N filter into my 2.2 LS and went from 29 to 34mpg as an average. I drive close to 110 miles per day some of it is interstate and some is through the city. I think I calculated that 8 fill ups or so would buy the filter for me.
I would go with the GMPP touring if you want a nice deep tone without being too loud. As far as getting an SS catback, it would have better flow than stock, but won't be as nice as the GMPP. Plus, the GM one is very easy to install ie no welding. I don't have a soundclip yet, but let me assure you, the sound is great! BTW, there are the same gains for both the touring and performance, the touring is just quieter.
