Factory Instrument Cluster

I am interested in a potential project of taking a factory instrument cluster and replacing the Speedo, Tach, and Fuel indicators with Autometer products. The idea being I can keep all of my gauges consistent with the same face, and also get a better gauge in the end. I am just putting a feeler out there with this one and want to ask;

Anybody tried doing anything like this yet? (besides Bob Mull?)

Any ideas on how to maintain the DIC in the tachometer?

I don't know man, sounds like more of a hasstle then a solution, blackcatcustoms.com has some nice looking gauges..... have you looked at those?

I have. Those are just replacement face plates. I'm talking about completely new gauges.

yeah, i dont know then man, i know all those are controlled through the ecu, hence you would have to run new sensors..... i think it would be to much work and cost to much, but would be an interesting project if you have the time and money....

Seems like a lot of work and it being costly. Have you thought about some kind of gauge pod or pillar? I had a 3 gauge pillar in my Grand Prix with Autometer Phantom white gauges that matched the stock instrument cluster, looked rather cool.

I already plan on doing a gauge pod, which is why I want to modify the stock cluster as well. I want all the gauges to be Autometer from a single line (like the C2). That way everything matches up.

I think that the fact that you would probably have to custom cut the tach to accomodate the DIC(assuming it isn't attached) is hassle enough, well, getting it right I mean. I more or less agree that it'd be to much trouble, but if you have the time ond money, and most importantly the desire, why not?
