Few problems with my 05 base coupe

Bought the car about 2 months ago, first week in having it noticed lots of squeaking coming from the wheels. I take it up to the dealer they say it's the wheel covers, they put spacers behind them and send me on my way. Well the spacers made the squeaking 10x worse so I just took the covers off, makes it look a little unique anyway, only cobalt around sporting the steelies .

So then about a week later I notice this idle problem. Doesn't happen on cold starts, but on warm starts, I'll fire her up and right when it starts it'll rev up to like 2500rpm, then drop down to like 2-300, almost stalling, then rev back up to 1500 or so. It'll do this like 3 or 4 times. I took it to the dealer twice now and they couldn't duplicate the problem, anyone else noticing anything like this? I'm new to the ecotec, was wondering if this was a computer controlled thing or if I have a problem. When I picked it up the service writer told me that there was a misfire code stored in the OBD, but they said it could have happened anytime, more likely from sitting while transported or while on the lot, couldn't duplicate that either. It still does this every other hot start or so. Haven't taken it back yet till I can get it to do it consistantly.

Now on to the fuel gauge, was wondering if anyone else was having a similar problem too. The gauge jumps all over the place, one minute it'll say it has like 60 miles till empty, then it'll go down to the "low fuel" warning, then it'll go back up to 60 miles over and over. Also it seems how I park it has an affect on the reading on the fuel gauge. If it's facing down a hill it'll say I have way too much fuel, and if facing up a hill it'll be almost empty. Anyone else experiencing this?

Also, anyone else notice it kind of odd how far the doors open on these things? Mine opens almost 90*, I've hit it off so much crap because I'd be expecting it to stop and it keeps on going lol.

Just wanted some input on whether it's just me or anyone else has had any of these problems, thanks in advance

With the gas gauge I've been having some questions too. I go somewhere it'll be at quarter tank or so and then I'll get back in it and start it up it'll be just above full. I understand the heat may affect it and if theres a little hill or whatever but not that much...

my gas guage fluctuates a good deal, as well. to an extent, its to be expected, but this is mroe than any other car i've had. my guess is the guage is near one of hte extreme ends (front or back) of the tank. when the car is angled, the effect of fuel sloshing to one side or the other would have a bigger effect then. as for the inconsistent revving, i've had that in my ss s/c too, but it seems to do it more when i get out of gear and into neutral, so i've assumed i'm letting the rpms drop a bit too much in gear, and its fighting to not stall. (still new at stick) guess it doesn't help too much, but at least you know you're not alone.

I have and have always had that idle problem with my cavalier on warm starts... sometimes it takes a few to get going too it wont want to start right away, my service guy said it could be from how I'm driving just ebfore i stop...

ie- if your flying into a parking lot half or wot and you quickly park and shut your car off you kind of leave it hanging tryin to pump crazy fuel... just a possibility, try to let the car sit for 5-10 sec before shutting ti off

The gas should only change slightly... get it checked

as for the doors,... wow thats tough I would prob end up ripping mine off...

Check for a disconnected vaccum hose around the MAF. Should be small a quater of an inch thick.

I am at the two month mark (5000 mile) mark with my 05 Base coupe as well and the hubcaps are driving me batshit!!!!! One thing that is annoying me is that every now and again the engine is bucking climbing hills with the A/C on... Not a violent shudder, but just a buck, like a skip (?). Hard to describe. My gas gage is a pain in the ass. I park it, it's full. Come back out and its down an eighth. Turn it off, go inside, come back out, it's up near full.

Other than that, the car seems to be ok.

Oh, the Cobalt is like Charles Manson to the animal kingdom. In two months, like 20 small and furry things have been killed by my car. Last night it was a cat. Tonight on the way home from work, a possum was eradicated.
Weird.

Have your dealer check for bulletins for reprograming the pcm. ( I can't believe the techs haven't checked for them! ) I will try to get the document ID#'s when I get back to work.

i have a problem and still kinda do with mine 2. one night i noticed wow i can feel the heat just coming off my car. so i hit the dumb little button to find out what the temp was. and there it was 238 . it would not go down no matter what. not to mention there was a weird ticking. and like steam was coming out of the pipes. idk what it was. well anyways i take it to the dealership and tell them its overheating. they say well we will take a look at it. i get a call back and they say the hottest we got it was 229 and it can run at that temp. so i tell them no thats bullshit find out whats wrong with it. they give me some sstupid reason. soemthing with the A/C. well anywayz it still runs hot. but hey if it blows up its on them........ heres the weird thing. if it is running hot and i turn on the A/C it cools down.........also my bodykit keeps coming down the rear of it. and i took it there to get it fix and put the ss wing on. they had it 3 days and when i went there itw asnt even fixed. and when i show the guy he goes im sorry. and i just said well thats alright. i left it there that night and i came to pick up my fixed car the next morn. and guess what. still wasnt done right. and i get the guy and show him. and his direct response was.....ooo ****....lol i gave him a big earfull. ..he must have felt dumb hearing it from somene half his age......adn this isnt some family run dealership. this guy owns most everything in the our city and half everything in the neighboring citys........wtf coming on guys.....i meen i love my cobalt.....i just hate were i bought it from
