A few ?s about the Sport Appearance Package option on '09 Cobalt LT Sedans

I am considering trading my '02 Sunfire Sedan in for a Cobalt. I would love to get an '09 SS Sedan, but unfortunately I don't know how to drive a manual and I am looking for something a little more practical as far as gas, insurance, etc.

Anyway, I am looking at the '09 LT Sedans. I have a question concerning one of the available packages. It's called the Sport Appearance Package and it includes the following (this information is from the "Build Your Own" section on cars.com):

- Body color rear decklid spoiler
- Front fog lamps
- Wheels: 17" polished aluminum
- Stainless steel exhaust w/ chrome tip
- Body color lower rocker moldings
- White faced instrumentation sport gauges
- Leather wrapped steering wheel

What I want to know is if this package would give the LT the same exterior look as the '07-'08 Sport Sedans i.e. front and rear bumpers and side skirts and wheels? I really like the look of the '07-'08 Sport Sedans, but I want a brand new car and I want ebony interior so if this package would indeed make the LT look just like the '07-'08 Sport Sedans than I am definitely getting one! Thanks in advance.

Do you have any friends that have a manual transmission car that you can practice in?

That's what I did. I learned in an old Hyundai.

I do have a couple friends with manual cars, but that's not the only reason for me not wanting an SS. With the SS you have to use premium fuel and I'm sure the insurance would be significantly higher than an LT. Those two things are pretty good reasons in my opinion for me to go with an LT. Also, I am not super big on horsepower. I am more about just having a nice looking, fun to drive daily driver. For me, going from my '02 2200 powered Sunfire Sedan (115 hp) to the '09 LT (155 hp) would be more than enough of a change for me in the horsepower department.

Yeah, sounds like it would be the same, but I think the taillights will be different. Call a dealer and ask.

I was looking at getting a Cobalt LS or LT mostly to save cash because my dad gets an employee discount, and I figured the insurance for an SS would be out of the question for me... but when I got looking into it the insurance was only $200 more/yr for an SS than an LS. I don't know if that maybe gives you something to think about... I don't think the gas is major issue either... like $200 more per year compared to buying regular?

Haha I dunno... these are just the things that convinced me that I could buy an SS after all.

i get better gas mileage in my ss than i did with my lt, which offsets the cost of premium gas. My insurance is also lower with the ss because of the extra safety features i didn't have in the lt. just an an fyi.

To the OP...the sport appearance package does make the LT look like the 08 Sport -- it has the same front and rear fascias, 17" wheels, side ground effects, and white instrument gauges that the 06-07 SS and 08 Sport had.

100 HP+ difference, **** how could you pass that up. For only a few extra thousand. Plus you'll be way sexier. SS=more ass.

Uh... why in the world would the taillights of all things be different? They're the same as any other Cobalt Sedan.

It's really not even about the $ so much as I just want something a little more subtle.

As I said before, I am more about just having a nice looking, fun to drive car. I am not looking to make crazy amounts of horsepower and I am not looking to have a show car. I just want a car that makes me happy and going from 115 hp to 155 hp is more than enough for me. End of story.

Thanks for the info, but like I said already I just want something a little more subtle than an SS.

Thanks for the confirmation! I was actually searching through used cars online and I found pictures of an '09 LT Sedan so I was able to see for sure that it indeed will look just like the '07-'08 Sport Sedans. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. Don't worry, I am not some dumb kid who will be trying to pose like I have anything other than what I really have. I just really like the looks of the '07-'08 Sport Sedans, but I want a brand new car and I want the black leather interior. Also, for the record... it won't have any badges on it whatsoever .

Yes, that is what an LT looks like, however I am looking for an LT with the Sport Appearance Package which would make it look completely different from the picture you posted. Thanks anyway.

No it doesn't. Here is an '09 LT Sedan with the Sport Appearance Package:

Definitely! The ECO in the J-Bodies is a huge difference and that's only 140, so obviously a Cobalt, even with the 2.2, is still going to be more fun to drive than my current 2200.

I have already stated my reasons for wanting an LT...

As far as the 2.4 goes, I have found quite a few brand new '08 Sport Sedans, however I wouldn't be able to stand having that light gray interior. I would rather trade the rear disc brakes and extra horsepower for the ebony leather interior. And yes, I know I could just swap the interior, but that would be a PITA since it's a Sedan and 99% of the Sedans I've ever seen have the light gray interior.

So, now that I have received confirmation on the Sport Appearance Package I am in the process of trying to locate one that meets all my needs and wants. I look forward to posting pictures once I find it and bring it home. And no worries... it will most definitely remain very subtle and clean looking. No ridiculous body kits or stickers or wings or any other kind of crap like that.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Well, actually you don't "have" to use premium, it's recommended. The owner's manual says that the computer will compensate if it detects regular fuel.

I dont quite understand...you could very well save on insurance to offset the increase costs by going with the SS...

you say you want something "More subtle", but youre looking at the sports package which is nearly identical on exterior looks to an SS...its just not adding up for me.

and an SS/SC (and im sure TC) is much easier to drive than a LS/LT as far as traffic merging etc...judging from driving man vs friends. if you see a hole...its yours - no hoping people slow down haha. j/k mostly on this point.

As far as learning stock...I didnt even use a friends car...i went to the dealer and bought my LS 5 speed...and off I went. the ride home was rough...and the next drive or two was a bit rough. Further complicating the issue, the day I bought it was a snowstorm (they had a special deal going at the dealer, and with the weather it was empty, so they were more willing to move it at my price...and I did get an awesome deal haha). but point of that, I drove it home in 2 inches of unplowed snow...and was still learning on spotty black ice and not plowed so hot roads. Maybe thats why I picked it up easier thohgh and have no qualms now? I bought my car on a thursday though, and by saturday evening i had it down. For what its worth, i drive highways and then city on my way to and from work/school every day. Stick is actually simple if you grasp the concept...perhaps im a bit crazy learning on my "new" car but oh well haha.

Anyway...its your choice do what you will - but i'm a bit confused by your arguement. hope you like your new car either way!
