Flowmaster 40 Series

Today i decided that i was tired of waiting for a reputable company to come out with a cat back system for my ss, so instead of ordering the particular $600 system that people have complained about from the company have been talking about on here, i went to a shop and just had them replace my muffler with a flowmaster 40 series. The mechanic chopped the pipe right before the muffler and right after. he reused the stock outlet pipe and tip, and charged me $100. The car sounds great and seems to have smoothed out throttle response quite a bit. To me this is well worth the $100 because this is a proven performance muffler, and it cost $500 less!!!

Also i talked to the muffler shop guy who installed my muffler whether or not i should replace the more narrow pipe that comes into the muffler and he said that it would not be a good idea because it appears to have been narrowed down due to the location of the fuel tank and fuel line that runs right by the pipe right over the axle in the back.

I wonder how loud that is? Flowmaster 40 series are very loud from what I know---even just crusing at lower rpms. I have thought of 50 series for my Firebird. A V8 with nice exhaust is one of the sweetest sounds.

One thing I hate about all these 4cly Hondas and such is the huge exhaust people put on and its the most annoying sound in the world. How does yours compare?

To semi answer this question, i have a flowmaster 40 series installed on my Z24. It sound sweet just idling. Course it's a V6 3.1 and slow but when you go WOT it's music to my ears The only thing that sucks is the drone noise. They should have that fixed with the next series so I have been told.

sorry for this, - off topic - would you see any gains if you changed the Catalytic converter to say... this one? http://www.gravanatuning.com/applica...CED_INDUCTION_

40's are not that loud

I had a 2000 V6 camaro with a flowmaster 40 muffler and it sounded good. Yes it was louder than stock but if you want loud you have to go with the 80's. Even with the 40's when i opened the intake by removing the resonator for straighter airflow you could still hear the engine and intake over the exhaust when wide open, windows open and tops off.

save your money, it only yields like 2-5 HP. On top of that, you need a o2 simulator to make sure you don't get a CEL and it requires customization (adapters to go to smaller stock piping) if you don't have a 3' inch exhaust already.

It would be better to run without one anyways with FI. Unless your a hippy and care for the enviorment.

after doing a little research the flowmaster 60 series is better suited for our cars then a 40 series.

Flowmaster 60 Series

It's meant for four cylinders and six cylinders. I remember reading before they redesigned there page recently that the 60 series is built for tuner and forced induction cars. It provides the rumble you want and the performance.

40 series will work in this situation but keep in mind the design of it was built for true muscle V8's

Did you get the Super 40 Series, Standard 40 Series or the delta flow series? the standard is gauged to be the loudest and most effective in the series but even louder in the cabin. That's gotta suck. I like a quiet cabin

to answer the q's

1) It is a quiet rumble at idle and smooth all the way acceleration, i havent looked exactly at what RPM the following seems to happen... but in the 4,500+ RPM range the engine tends to drown out the exhaust note

2) The interior sound is surprisingly quite with windows up

3) The only thing that i can see getting on anyone's nerves would be the popping that occurs during deceleration, but i would think that any aftermarket exhaust system or muffler would have this problem

i highly recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap alternative to the current options we have for custom ss exhaust

the 60 series only has up to a 2 1/4 inch pipe through it. that's small for an aftermarket replacement on a force fed car
