Full Synthetic oil or GM's blend

I'm debating on weather or not for my winter oil change to swap to full synthetic oil (royal purple) or go with the gm blend they used when they re-certified my cobalt. I'm currently sitting under 50k miles on my 06 SS supercharged. Is there a huge difference on this motor on this kind of a change. Anything noticeable besides the less changes except for the fact the filters are good for 3000 miles and some change. Which makes me wonder is it worth it.

Yup what everyone else said. Mobile 1 full synthetic. I used royal purple (my buddy ran a shop and got it for stupid low prices (about $3.50 a qt)) once. I will never do it again.

With your rep on this site, I'll take your word on it. I was more trying to make the point to avoid royal purple.

My oil cap says SS on it lol. The guy that had it before me was a real winner. I guess he had all kinds of stickers and weird badges all over the car. Plus the dealer has to replace the clutch and flex plate, timing chain, pulley tensioner, head gasket and all Struts at each corner. So full synthetic it is.

Run Mobil 1 5w30. You can run Mobil 1 Extended Performance too. It offers even better protection.

Exactly what I am running. Was out at the summit store today. Picked up oil and I'm going with the K&N oil filter as well. First time I've ever gone with one of there oil filters. Any feedback ?

I knew a K&N rep that told me that the filter media in moble one filters was the same. On the can filters you get the bolt on the end and a thicker can. I run those on the Jeeps in case a rock hits the can or a motor mount breaks and dents the can. It's just a little insurance to have the stronger can and as in your case a great filtering material.

I wonder two things. When they say blend, then how much synthetic do you get? The other thing is is this the first oil thread ever that has not headed straight for the ditch?

Mobil 1 5w 30 full synthetic or any other quality full synthetic that meets spec GM4718.

Do not put that synthetic blend crap in.

Oh yeah, also run the AC delco oil filter.

I dont buy into the hype, but I do like to use what came in the car from the factory.

That's why I also mentioned any quality full synthetic oil that meets gm4718 spec is fine.

I don't run any else. I prefer extended performance too. It's been 6000 miles on this oil and it is barely changing color.

Fluids locked and loaded into the car today. My sister's boyfriend who is a mechanic needed to borrow the car for a couple days was nice enough to flush all the fluid's in the car as well. He figured incase it may need to be driven in the winter it should be properly checked over. I have a feeling he's going to ask to borrow it again lol. But he checked the tranny fluid, checked the brake lines, flushed the cooling system completely and I guess I'm good up to -20 degree's, and of course the oil change which he did mention "good choice on oil". And I still don't have my car back starting to worry now LOL.

I understand that you can't look at black oil and say it's bad. But I was taught from the time I was tearing down my first engine(at 12) that golden oil is good oil. going 6k and still having somewhat gold oil is good if you look at it from that perspective. I know you are knowledgeable on these subjects, and I'm trying to rid myself of the old wives tales of the old racers who taught me what I know about engines. I'd love to read more about this if you have any articles or feel like sharing.

To anyone else(including Sl0wbaltSS or whatever the **** his username is): I don't believe in name calling or ridicule for things people don't know, or saying dumb **** like "yeah vroomm vroom crackle crakle boom BOOM(or 97% of Sl0wbaltSS's posts) so any other smartass that wants to call me stupid will be ignored.

From what I have seen, Mobil 1 goes black very fast. Like within a thousand miles or two.

Mine stays golden till the next oil change. Maybe you just have a dirty motor

Oil color change is largely dependent on the condition of your motor, how much carbon is getting into the oil by getting past the piston rings.

Though I bought it with ~85k, my LSJ turns Mobil 1 5w-30 black by 4k. The engine seems to run fine otherwise, no codes or lack of power.
