G5 GXP possabillity??
well the new cobalt ss turbocharged is out now and that leaves me wondering a lot about pontiacs g5. i wonder if pontiac will even continue it/recieve a turbocharged version of it later.
according to the 09 cobalt changes article, the 2.4 is being dropped and the "Sport" is discontinued. and the 2.2 LAP vvt is the only engine possible on LS/LT models aside from the 2.0 turbo in the SS (more info go here for changes https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...40#post2137540)
if these changes are correct, i really wonder how pontiac's G5 will be effected by this.
does anyone have any inside info on what the future of the G5 really is, and if a GXP model with the turbo is underway at all?

Have you seen it? It's ugly as ****. Here, lemme give you a sample.

Not to mention it's essentially a 2007 GTP with a bumped up price and no stinking manual transmission, even though they said one would be available.
No G5 GXP chance, by the way. This is GM we're talking about. SATURN gets the LSJ. CHEVY gets the LSJ. GM's PERFORMANCE division, Pontiac, gets nothing.
Don't even get me talking about how GM has thrown Pontiac out the ******* window. I'd rant for hours.

The only thing wrong with it is this: we all bitch about the use of the SS badge, "ZOMG the 2.4 should have never had it blah blah," I think some Malibu got it, too. GM's like, oh okay, we'll stop being slutty with what was a once highly regarded moniker, and only put it on our performance Chevrolet vehicles. Then they turn to Pontiac and say, haha no one cares about you so we'll start whoring out "GXP" like there's no tomorrow. G6 - let's go bugs bunny style! A non-functional ram air hood! A big ass hammerhead spoiler! Ahh, but of course, the same 3.6 with 252 hp hauling a big ass car with no manual transmission that we gave you performance fans in the 2007 GTP.
they werent selling any G5 gt's so putting the 2.4 in them was useless when for 2-3 grabd more you ge tthe sc/ or now turbo setup. there was not a lot of interest in the G5 GT's either, rarely see any, most dealers dont even stock a GT. There is 3 other g5 gt's that I know about all 2007 and newer, mine is the only "pursuit" floating around my area.

That doesn't make sense since the GTP and GXP have the exact same drivetrain, at least the Cobalts are different. And there is no GTP at all for anything anymore, top trim for Pontiac is GXP, so SS = GXP.
[QUOTE=Acey;2137715]Lots of G5 GT's in Southern Alberta. Nearly matches the number of 2.4 balts I see.
well that doesnt make sense, there are barely any up here. honestly I have seen no more then 8-10 GT's in the past 5 months. lots of bases now though

Which would have been fine in itself, but for the G6 they also decided to add an ugly front fascia and rear hammerhead spoiler and skirts and non-functional hood. The generally accepted definition of rice is non-functional parts/added bling without any performance increase. Thus, sadly, the 2008 Pontiac G6 GXP = factory rice.

But I actually love G6's. I'm looking for an 06 or 07 coupe as my next car. So if you're a G6 fan I am too, just not the GXP.
Yeah G6 GTP/GXP against SS/SC's are very close, with the edge to the Cobalt from what I understand. G6 interior > Cobalt interior, though. Sat in both.
i would honestly be happier with jsut nicer seats. seomthing that actually would hug you instead of being built fr your average fat person. I slide all over my seat and I weight 150lbs, they should somewaht be hugging me...
That's why, IMO, you should be able to then step up to a midsize performance coupe from GM. The G6 isn't horrific in that regard, but it could be better. *cough cough bring back the 6-speed manual*
