ok like i said i am new to cobalts and somethings i still dont know, what the heck is this "g85" package i keep hearing about? so far i have gathered it has something to do with seats???? lol

 

in 05 and 06, G85 gives you recaro seats and LSD (limited slid differential) . Non-G85 dont have those. 07, LSD is still an option, but the recaro are only very very limited in availability.... As far as 07, thins G85 stands for LSD, but not the seats anymore.

 

For the 05, 06 and just the early 07 models with the G85 it came with the Recaro seats and the limited slip diff. Most of the 07s it is just the LSD though, they got rid of the Recaros.

ok so as an late 07 owner i should just say i have an lsd. so are there models without the lsd????

 

On the 2006 model that I have, the G85 package is Recaro seats (i love them, they keep you planted firmly, and they are bolstered enough that you don't move laterally in turns) -- also equipped with a Quaife limited slip differential. Crucial for those of us in autocross and in locations with frequent bad weather. Not to mention, I laid some really nice dual tire marks on Saturday in the canyon when I was hanging out with my car club. The only real downside to the recaros is that they don't come with the heating option like the OEM seats--but I'm sure there's a kit on ebay for that if you REALLY wanted heated seats.

In every year they made the Cobalt SS/SC some have LSD and some don't.

Just ordered my 07 with the G85 yesterday

 

yeah i test drove 2 07s. one was silver with absolutely everything (g85 and all) and then a black one which apparently is a later model. leather seats not recaro. and the black one(one i bought) is just a more laid back car. i dont need a sun roof, i dont need onstar on my mirror. i dont need recaro seats. the way i look at it is the car i bought is more of a "nice car" as opposed to one more focused on being sporty and racey. make sense to anyone? plus black looks better with tint, lol

 

umm i had the oem seats in my old black one i never saw a heated seat option in my car, it was a 06 ss/sc with no recaros and no lsd just sunroof and xm

 

Heated leather option was added in 07, so it was not available in 06.

 

Is there any designation on the tranny themselves (ie if you were sourcing one from a salvage yard) that would let you know its a G85?

 

There's a big ass sticker that says LSD. If it's still in the car, the RPO code will be in the trunk.
