G85 or not
Zinner:
I understand what you're saying. I think I feel the same way about everyone who dismisses it claiming it won't do anything. I just wanted to point out some possible bad weather benefits which were completely overlooked.
I'm very interested in how this car is going to drive/handle in the snow either way. I wonder if the SS will be more prone to understeer or oversteer in the snow? My current Z24 sadly is prone to understeer. Take a sharp corner in the snow and the front end just refuses to turn. A little fancy braking/e-braking can help that out, but I would personally prefer the car want to oversteer by default. It's more fun if nothing else! hehe
PygmySurfer:
A RWD truck and a FWD car are really two different beasts. The weight difference on the wheels is huge A light rear end of a truck could have a locked differential and spin both wheels at the same time with ease.
Also traction control differes among vehicles. Traction control on most cars is just a fancy term for automated braking during wheel slippage. Implementation on that can make the car awkward to drive and/or work crappily. The LSD on the SS is engauged full time biasing torque to both wheels for superior traction control as opposed to most cars in my opinion.
Your truck probably does have a real limited slip for traction control as well, but you really can't compare a truck to a front wheel drive car.
Bottom line is were speculating. We'll just have to wait and see.
It's up to personal opinion. Some people feel it's needed, some don't. Neither one is really wrong or right.

here is one thing to consider as far as the lsd goes. the new mini cooper s is coming with it and it doesn't have as much horspower as we do. also if you have ever seen a mini s or a 03 srt-4 take a turn with some effort (i have on an autocross course) than you would know exactly why you want the lsd. I myself plan on autocrossing the cobalt and could not imagine not having the lsd

As for the traction in snow, have you driven a car with Summer W rated Ultra High Performance tire on the snow? Even with an LSD they are gonna both spin at the same time with zero traction in the snow.
I am sure the LSD will help some but is that a reason to spend 1500 bux on it ? 1500 bux will get you a set of snow tires on some 16 inch cheesie rims that would make a non LSD SS/SC run circles around a Cobalt with the LSD. And I am sure you will have some money left over
