General Motors Corp. will offer a $1,500 rebate when current owners buy a new General Motors model.
The rebates, which end Jan. 31, can be added to incentives as high as $3,500 on 2005 models, spokeswoman Deborah Silverman said Tuesday. The company will not offer advertised rebates on 2004 models, she said.
Ford Motor Co. will extend its December incentives through Monday, giving as much as $2,000 on purchases of some 2005 models and $5,000 on some 2004 car and trucks, spokesman David Reuter said. The company isn't offering rebates on its new models, he said.
At DaimlerChrysler, unit spokesman Kevin McCormick didn't return a call about whether Chrysler would match the program.
General Motors will give $1,500 in some regions to owners of competing brands who buy select new models, such as the Pontiac G6 and Chevy Cobalt sedans, Silverman said.
Dealers will get unadvertised cash of as high as $10,000 to help sell remaining 2004 GM models, said Troy Ontko, president of Autodollars.com in Manchester, Mich., which collects incentive information. General Motors doesn't comment on payments to dealers, Silverman said.
