Yesterday Bob Lutz stated that the current Cobalt is "no where near the end of its life-cycle" and that it's "finally coming into its own" in the U.S. market, depsite the lack of an "MCE" or Mid Cycle Enhancement.
In an effort to emphasize the "better over time, like a fine wine, or a good aged cheese" GM will be producing an annual Chevrolet Cobalt Wisconsin Edition every year up until the 10th year of its life cycle.
"We thought that with the Silverado Texas Edition that emphasizes a love for trucks in that big state, a Wisconsin edition of the Cobalt would make sense as a way to reinforce how the Cobalt's life cycle has only just begun, and how it will age and ripen into an even more fantastic car over time, just like a wheel of cheddar. The best thing is, we won't have to do that much to keep it relevant. We'll just let nature take its course." GM's Lutz said in a statement to a handful of bloggers and cheese enthusiasts this morning.
Unlike the Texas Edition Silverado, the Wisconsin Edition Cobalt will be offered proudly nationwide.
Wisconsin Edition Cobalts will come in a choice of two paint colors, Vintage White or Annatto Yellow, with chrome "Wisconsin Edition" badging. The interior will feature labels from real cheese wheels stiched into the seat backs with a year on the label indicating just how long it has been since the Cobalt came onto the market. A year's supply of Cheddar scented car diffuser refills will come standard.
GM is looking in to cross marketing Chevrolet Cobalt branded cheese with Jim's Cheese Pantry Co. of Waterloo, Wisconsin.
