Going to the Dealership with a cat-less DP
Going to the Dealership with a cat-less DP
Just curious if anyone has ever ran into problems at the dealership getting an oil change or something with their Cat-less DP in? I have not done it yet and am a little apprehensive about doing it... Do they generally just not care? Or would they like rat me out to the cops?

cops could probably care less that you are missing one of your cats lol if anything they might pull the warranty (if you have one left) but even just a catless downpipe doesn't raise red flags.
Yeah it really all depends on the dealer and the service writer. The dealer 5 minutes down the road from me wouldn't touch my car for warranty work that I needed done on my steering column and window regulator, but a dealer 40 minutes away was more than willing to do the work without question. Mind you I'm fully bolted with a full 3" turbo-back straight pipe exhaust.... so it's sorta hard to miss.

yea i dont get it lol that same dealer that wouldn't touch my AC also told me that despite my aftermarket turbo kit and full bolt ons that they WOULD replace my tranny if it blew...under warranty. WTF
I've wanted to take mine into a dealer just to see what would be said but oil changes at dealers are ridiculous and not worth the possible chuckle as they inform me I am missing a cat or something.
a catless dp will cause a check engine light, and with no cat at all, the spark plug non fouler trick probably wont get rid of the CEL. The only option would be to tune it out. Aftermarket tunes automatically void your powertrain warranty. You might be able to find a dealership that will work on it. If you tune it out, then there is a decent chance the first dealership you take it to might void your warranty if they ever need to plug into the ECU. If you don't tune it out, and you take it there with a CEL, they probably won't work on it until you get rid of the light since it is caused by an aftermarket part. I'd suggest getting a high flow catted dp and doing the non fouler trick. Although for oil changes they probably don't care unless they feel like being ******.

Completely false......I mean it COULD cause a CEL, but me and hundreds of others I'm sure can attest to no CEL with a catless downpipe on the stock tune. I think it's also safe to assume nearly all dealers wouldn't know the difference if you were or weren't catless
Yeah haha, my MPx catless dp came with a cheater for the O2 and it went right in with no problems or a CEL.
i work at my dealership now lol. but before when i took it in i was getting an oil change. the kid looked up and said something dont look right.... I was like ****! so I was like ya its catless he looks at me and goes "cool" all redneck like. they called him hehaw
thats pretty cool. i had to install an elbow and do the non fouler trick, and it still came on a couple times, but i havent seen it in a few months. my engine is stock too besides the dp. just sharing my experience. i guess if the dp comes with a "cheater" bung then you are good to go.
mine pops on and off every few miles, I always would check to be sure it was the same and it is, just an annoyance is all. I have a high cat but was too excited to get the zzp header and DP on I did not want to wait to get it done at a shop. I got tuned for the light but I guess it only works for a few months :

I passed emissions with a catless downpipe. car was too low to look under and tech kept staring at the exhaust tip with his hands on his hips. lol he knew something was up but it passed lol. i even smiled when i asked if there was anything wrong.
i think if i showed up in the cobalt and was catless+straight piped they might take a look..depending how loud it is.
For an oil change they might not even notice or pay attention. Just get you lifted, drained pluged and back on the ground for filter and refill. No need to really look at the exhaust, they probably got other cars in line behind you they need to do.
