I run a Passport 9500iX. Very effective for radar. Limited for laser, as most are, although it has saved me on a few occasions by getting on the brake quickly
I only go way over the limit on a low-traffic 4 lane toll road by my house for logging, for heat cycling new tires and for bedding new brakes. (ECaulk can attest to the logging part)
OK sometimes also just because I feel the need for speed. Almost overtook an inconspicuous cop car once going 140+ (in a 75) and got off with a warning. Truth be told he wasn't running his radar or it might have ended differently
That said, I don't speed on other roads and I don't race. Except on a road track

But back on topic, if you're serious about wanting to invest in a detector that is reliable and really saves your ass, there's only a few that fit that bill, and they are in the $4-500 + range. Yes, that's a lot but so is a ticket of 40 over. And BTW the Escort S55 you linked in your earlier post is their entry-level detector. I highly recommend IX.
Escort even has a promotion going where they pay for your tickets for a year. How do you beat that?!
