Got a question

I am sick of running into this everytime I go to modify a vehicle. My parents are throwing a fit about me doing just BASIC bolt ons to my Cobalt. I make the payments and insurance so wtf? They are well your going to void your entire warranty, etc.

I know about the ACT, thanks for the sticky. But what else could I do to SHOW them on paper that doing this will not cause a entire warranty void.

Freaking sucks azz. Thanks for answers. Everything I do will be able to be swapped back to stock quickly anyways just in case.

dude parents over react to everything especcially when it comes to making your vehicle faster to kill yourself that much sooner... also they don't want to hear you bitch if something does indeed void your warranty.

Read your warranty book. Most manufacturers have a statement in the warranty that explains that modifications will only void the warranty if a problem arises that can be directly attributed to the modification.

look up the magnusson moss act... it's all right there... there's a bajillion posts on this, but since your new (next time use the search button) i'll give you the nittygritty... any aftermarket parts you put on will NOT void the warrenty, unless they (Dealer) can prove that the problem was a direct result of the aftermaket part..

i.e. if you put on an intake and something happens to the car, they cannot void the warrenty unless the intake caused the problem.

Easy solution......buy a house/get an apartment...support your own roof over your head and assume full responsibility for yourself and then come back and let us know how unfair life is won't solve the warranty issue but sure will get those pesky parents who keep you dry and warm everynight off your back

$3500.00 a month, gee, and that doesn't even cover food, electricity, internet, or anything else. Your either eating ramen noodles and living in the dark, or making twice that amount. :P

As to the OP, There's nothing you can say or do because the warranty issue isn't the real problem. The real problem is they don't want the car becoming your life, and they don't want you going any faster than you already are.

That's a parent for you. hehe

The question wasn't what I could use. I mean I showed them that and all, and still it was like a brick wall.

So it's either quit school and move out on my own and not deal with it. Which is stupid. I finally talked them into letting me SLOWLY modify it if I ask before each. Childish I know, but I still get to do what I want.

I was just wondering if there was like strictly GM products out there or something.

btw- I moved BACK home to afford school. I'll be done in less than a year.

Whoa buddy...don't say I don't know how life is. Just because I moved back home only means I did it to afford to get my education. I know reality of life, and what does this have to do with getting more helpful information on how to let my parents know I won't void the warranty??????

My finances are straight. Got into my career field, and graduate college soon. Couldn't be more happier.

I was only bringing up the "life facts" as you were whining like a 12 year old who isn't allowed to go to the school dance because your parents won't let you do things to your car. But let me get one more thing straight...you moved home to save money for your education, yet you want to dump money into your car? Doesn't make much sense but oh well good luck with everything

Because the couple grand set aside for education is already there and not being touched and yes the couple grand will cover the rest of my school. I even have the money set aside to even further my education at a four year. But that is personal choice, and everything dealing with finances and education is already handled. Only things I have to worry about now until I graduate is car payment, insurance, gas, food, etc.

Not defending myself...just looking for other ways(than the act that was passed) to show my parents modifications to my car will not COMPLETELY void the warranty.

well to help ya' out anyway.....I do know that the stage kits are warrantied by GM but you don't have a 2.0 so that doesn't help you out. I remember seeing exhausts and such made alos by GM (Not sure if they warranty it but pretty sure they would) and also not sure if that is for the 2.2. Try searching GM's website for these add-on's and that might help ya' out a bit

Why waste money on bolt ons that aren't going to do you much to begin with. You're young, put it in a college fund.
