theres a lot of forums covering what grades of gas to use in which to use for our cobalts. what i was wonder if "WHERE" you get your gas matter? i get at WAWA but i ve been told that s a no no to get it at Exxon. you ll end up paying more there, but its it the same gas? just wondering (o i just wanted to add more FUEL to the gas forums )

I've gotten better milage on some tanks then others with the same driving style, but that's expected anyway.

 

This is a great question because from my understanding the gas stations buy their gas from a wholesaler in the area. I'd heard that, what I am not sure of is whether or not the competing stations solicit the same wholesaler...I know most of the gas stations have prices that are close, the base is cheaper and shell is more expensive. I dunno and I would really like to know.

 

I get my gas from Shell mostly. Their prices are the same as all the other gas stations around me. Shell is also the closest to my house, so its convenient.

Here in Phoenix, many gas stations are selling the same fuel because most of it comes from the same pipeline. There are exceptions, but by and large its all the same stuff.

 

From what I understand, and read once. All gas, in there respective octane levels are the same when made. I.E. all 93 octane is the same from the gas refineries. The gas stations, Shell, Amaco etc. etc. send in fuelers that have high concentrated chemicals in them, like shells Vpower and chevrons Techron. as these fueler trucks are filled up, the chemicals and the gas mix. So, instead of pure 93 octane, your actually getting a 93 octane thats been mixed in with engine candy. Hope it makes sence. & xcuze my spelling.

Yes, there was actually a HUGE write up on here explaing how the additives in some fuel is better than others, and i think Shelll ranked at the top, as well as Exxon. Personally I put V-power in mine. If someone can find that write up before me please post it up.

Shell's 93 octane brand name, like Chevron has "techron" and such.

 

so this will help keep your feul enjection system clean and running better (would it proved better gasmilage-or is that an octane level question?

 

I think gas mileage is more or less how you drive the car. If I hammer on my S/C for a bit, my mileage drops to about 20, if I baby it, it goes back to about 23. The additives just serve to keep your fuel system clean, like your injectors and such. The better the cleaning agent, the cleaner the fuel system, the more fuel that gets delivered, the better the overall driving experience.

 

I worked at a major oil company(Marathon) for several years. Every gas station gets there gas from the same "terminal" (where the product comes out of the pipeline). When the transport shows up it is filled with the product, this is also where they add in there specific additives. For instance, at the Marathon terminal, there were BP trucks, Shell trucks, etc.. that would show up and fill up. Hope this clarifies things a little bit.

 

Bingo, i personaly use Shell. The additives dont make u get better mileage. But cleaner internals kepp your car running a bit smoother. Zero deposits on valves does = better gas mileage i heard. Can anyone elaborate on this?

they showed us a picture in a gm training video of 2 intakes valves. each had 10,000 miles on it. one vehicle used top tier gasoline, one used gasoline that only met the federal mandated minimum detergent levels. the difference was quite amazing. there was quite a bit of carbon buildup on the non-top tier valve and hardly any on the one that did use top tier gas.
