AUTO OR MANUAL???

What did you guys buy and why did you buy it?

i personally have only owned 1 auto car in my life and it was given to me

 

I own 2 manuals cars right now and I first owned an automatic. Really like manual but soon I'm going to be selling one of the manual cars and when I can i will get a auto so my wife can drive the car aswell

 

Auto for the daily. Manual for the weekend toy. I had the exact opposite and hated it lol.

 

ive never owned an auto, and for 10 years i made a living rebuilding automatics. obviously for a car im gonna have a stick, but im starting to think about getting a pickup and manual options are limited. been looking at smaller trucks like the colorado/canyon, the problem is anything but the smallest engines are automatic, so your kinda stuck.

 

Ive only ever owned a manual car, but autos definitely have their place too.

 

I love and have only manual cars but sadly there are less vehicles with manual transmissions available every day. The only time I don't like manual is if I am trying to eat and drive.

 

You don't need to use your hands if you do it right.

 

I prefer manuals as most autos were pretty dumb when I was growing up (shifting into overdrive going up a hill for instance). Autos have come a long way since the early 2000s (i.e. DSG) but I feel if it's a sports car it has to be a manual. I've ate and drove in many a manual, that's what your knee is for.

 

I've always owned manuals since I started driving, but as of right now I have 2 autos on tops of the SS. Wife can't drive stick, and doesn't want to learn, so she has her Freestyle. I have a 95 Outback that I grabbed for $600 to have a winter beater when I got the Cobalt.

I have owned 4 cars and only one was an auto. I didn't mind it but I missed my manual. It is so hard now, so few cars even have an option for a manual anymore. Basically the super cheap Eco **** boxes or performance cars are the only cars you can find manuals on and even they are getting fewer. Automatic transmission technology has progressed to the point that you actually get better gas mileage out of an automatic than a manual now and with being able to manually shift automatics and not have to deal with a clutch the art of driving manual is fading fast.

I bet that by 2025 there will only be a around 10 cars that you can get an manual option for and I bet you will have to pay extra for it.

 

 

Autos suck the joy out of driving. I dont even like that some of these new cars, like the Dodge Challenger Demon is auto only. I get its probably more efficient than the average driver but still, I love rowing through gears.

 

Less than 10% of cars sold in America are manual. More than 60% of cars sold in the UK are manual. Americans are just fat lazy bastards. Just for kicks I hopped on Ford UK's website, and the base model Edge over there comes 6-speed manual/AWD/2.3 turbo standard.

Edit: Okay, so 60% might be a bit high, but it gets the point across that most of the rest of the world sells more manuals than autos.

 

part of it is the emissions control. epa has been trying to force manual transmissions out for years now. they see it as if a driver has more control the vehicle might not be operating the vehicle in the most efficient manner. the more computer controlled thing the more efficient it will be.

 

Personally I would rather have an auto in the city especially in stop and go. My 4.45 gears aren't a lot of fun. Open road/twisty roads, manual. The 6-8 speed paddle shift quick shifting autos are so much better than their older counterparts.
