GTI better than SS/TC and CSRT4?.......

my thoughts on this
Id rather have the MS3 or the SS T/c or a civic SI or a wrx before I even dream of stepping into a GTI.
I have never been a fan of VW, but I must say I tend to agree that their interior is far more appealing than say a SS/TCs interior, and the build quality is superior with VW as far as parts used are concerned atleast. My SS developed hood lump and the dash console where the radio controls are started showing wear signs just months after i bought the car. But that being said, I still think the seats in the GTI look tacky, along with those stock GTI rims. The performance bargain is not really that great to brag about. Then there is that VW questionable reliability, I love when VW fans laugh at Chevy or Ford for reliability not realizing JD power put their cars at the bottom of the barrel as well for reliability.

The wrx is definitely a worthy competitor given that it is a 4 door wagon and hauls ass for what it is and cant go wrong with AWD in heavy snow conditions. If i were to pick, it will be as follows
1) MS3 or SS.TC or WRX (depends on which one appeals to me the most at the time)
2) SI

last and only choice) GTI *still a toss up between taking the public transit and a GTI*

When I traded in my SC with 75 000KM on it, I had some chipped paint around the door lock switch on my drivers door. Everything else was like new and I fixed two rattles so it was just as tight as ever. I liked the black n red combo and like my interior. Much better than fukin plaid.... to each their own... but I really dont see the MAJOR difference here, but I agree there is one.
The dealership was very very happy to see the condition of my SC. You could eat off the engine.

I paid like $21100 plus tax. Also, even if I would have paid $30k, that's what the price is here. Any of those cars on the list are alot more in Canada. Si is $32k OTD, GTI starts at $29k, the Ralliart starts at $33k The WRX 265 starts at $35k
As for the Si being the slowest, yeah maybe in a straight line but in on a road track, I know the Si would outshine the GTI and wouldn't break down during a track day!

cams, N20, ported blower, smaller pulley, tune, youll make around 350 hp. Newb.
All I know is that if the SS/TC had an interior to rival VW, it would sell like hot cakes. Especially with the hardware the TC has over the SC.
People that buy Audi's and VW's usually sacrifice some performance to get the overall package that is Audi/VW. If Chevy used IDENTICAL interiors as VW, you would see Chevy sales go through the roof. This is especially true with cars like the Cobalt. It has everything needed to be a huge seller and a fantastic all around car, except the interior quality/refinement.
I would certainly give the Cobalt SS/TC a look if they did just that, along with a big line of VW buyers.
There is no reason to slam ANY of the cars in the test, they all have their selling points, and those that like each one, will buy it.
You love your CSRT4, great. Glad you do.
Everyone on here loves their SS/TC.
And there are many happy GTI owners as well.
What makes you happy might not make me happy, and vice versa.
Choice gives people the option to buy what hey want. We should be glad we have such an amazing group of cars to choose from in the <25k category.

QFT. Very good point. I think everyone can agree with this.

id drive a Gti, nothin wrong with those cars. i am just so sick of every writeup/shootout docking GM major points for the interior. ya, it is important but when a car performs as well as some of GMs cars do (ZR1, Z06, our SS etc) it'd be nice to just give the car its credit. if i ranked great interior highly on my list of priorities, do u think i'd be buying a 20,000 sport compact??

The Caliber sucks and Chrysler is going under...
The Cobalt is a decent all around car, but looking back, I'd much rather have the GTI for my daily driver. The Cobalt's quality isn't there, with 5k miles on it, I've had WAY too many problems.
I love driving it, which always puts a smile on my face, but there is more to a car than simply speed and cornering prowess. I will never get this car to it's limits on the street and I won't take it to the track because I just don't want to risk banging it up...I have a track **** for that....
