However there are differences in the Cavalier and Cobalt engines/transmissions. While the engines are similar if not identical, there are slight differences. (ECM, power steering, etc.) Also, the Cavalier used the 4T40 transmission while the Cobalt uses the 4T45E. (Same family, but not the same unit.) So I don't think it would even be worth it to try and use a Cavalier manual to work on a Cobalt. The amount of information that would be applicable to the Cobalt would make it moot.

Before getting my Balt, I had a 93 toyota 4x4 pickup.
The Haynes manual was OK I guess, but the factory manual was priceless.
Toyota has everything online where you can just download everything in PDF. You pay an access fee and download all you want.
This was mostly for shops and stuff that just payed monthly and needed constant access to all models, but I just used it to get the one I needed and canceled.
I don't know if Chevy has something like that?

after seeing their manuals and teardowns, Chiltons and Haynes manuals look like stereo instructions for retarded monkeys.

I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to get to an online manual for the SS/SC for free. I need to take the front end off the car and want to know how big of a pain in the ass its going to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can go on alldata.com and buy a subscription for you cars for 25 bucks for the first car and 15 each additional for a year or 50 bucks for 3 years. They just included the 06's it has technical bullitins and stuff second best thing to GM's website.

Neither Haynes nor Chilton even come close to what the factory service manuals provide (3 Volumes for the 2006 Cobalt). Yes, $135 is a lot of money, but in this case you really do get what you pay for.
As for the guy who says he has 2 Haynes manuals for his Honda -- my daughter has a Honda and I rebuilt the auto 4-spd in it. The Haynes books do not have the auto tranny rebuild in it at all. The factory Honda service manual does -- and that's what I ended up buying to do a better job. Same goes for all makes of cars -- match up any Haynes or Chiltons manual to a factory service manual and you'll see what you're missing. There is a lot more info and how-to pictures as well.

Man, I wish I saw that. I would have saved a little $$. I searched on Amazon last week but didn't come up with anything. Oh well, it was just a couple of bucks.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I've looked through both kinds and they are pretty similar.
I don't have a link. I just ordered it from my local car parts store.
