Heater core question

Hey guys i have an 06 ss/sc and in the past few dayd ive been getting the smell of coolant through my vents so i took to dealer they pressure tested the block that turned out to be ok but they said it was prolly my heater core but they couldnt be sure unless they ripped my dash out and looked to make sure and wanted $1330 bucks to do it.but my question is could it rele be the heater core because my heat still blows plenty hot and my car isnt overheating but there is a coolant leak sumwere.im taking it to a local shop tomorrow just wondering what your guyʻs opinions are.

If they pressure tested it and it leaked coolant into the car then yeah, that's your leak. If they pressusr tested it and didn't find a leak don't be so fast to shell out that money. They'll rip your dash out and you'll have more rattles then an 85 Buick afterwards and probably still have a coolant smell.

It didnt leak into the car but the whole underside by the passanger side underneath by the passanger side wheel was all covered in coolant and after they did the pressure test my car said low coolant when before i took it it did not say that.

Even on the sheet i got from the dealer it says suspect heater core is leaking.reguardless a buddy of mine owns a repair shop and is only charging me 500 bucks which still is alot but itʻs alot better than 1300.

if your heater core is the problem then it would leak into the car more than likely. if u sat its leaking by pass wheel id make sure before you start tearing your dash apart.

joeyfingers,
I understand that you're searching out alternatives to working with the dealership on finding out if it's the heater core or not. Keep me posted if you do decide to work with them as I'm available to check into this further.

Sometimes you can access the heater core from the bottom of the car rather than the dash, even if the manual calls for dash to be opened up. Definitely a way to save money on the repair. My old car was the same way.
