Hello all

I am considering a purchase of an 07 Supercharged Cobalt SS. I currently drive an 01 Firebird Trans Am Firehawk with the LS1, six speed, long tube headers, lid, etc. The car is getting old (has 66K on it) and I am thinking of getting rid of it. I need something affordable, reliable and fuel efficient since I plan to start law school in fall of 08. I love my hawk (it is the only white M6 with Auburn gears built in 01), but it's starting to tell me things, and I think it is time to unload it before the repair bills start piling up. Anyway, are there any words of wisdom from you owners about what to look for, average prices, what to avoid, etc.? If this is something that has been beaten to death on these boards, I apologize. P.S. I'm probably about 15 years older than the average buck on this board. Is it uncool for a 36 y.o. to be driving a Cobalt SS?

The only thing I can think of is getting the G85 LSD package with the 2.0 SS/SC

Dont let age be a factor, there are customers in our town that are 40-50's and own these, they are a fun car!

PM us if you ever have any questions...

it's a pretty decent car for the money. as far as age, there's a lot of "older guys" here

i would def. get the G85 like recommended. other than that, the other options you can just see which ones you want. as far as fuel efficient, it all depends on how you drive. if i'm not driving like an idiot, i get over 30 mpg on the highway, average speed of 80 mph. and for what's done to the car, i'd say that's damn good.

My LT1 F-body had over 100k on it ( bought it new in 95) and all i ever had to do was maintenance , oil.. filters... plugs . It had over 200 1/4 mile passes on it (13.56@105 best ) so i doubt yours has been abused more . What do you think is starting to go on yours?

Don't get me wrong , i really like my cobalt , i think i have as much fun in the ss as i did in the Z28 but it would never hold up to the track abuse that my old car did.

My LS1 was blessed with the infamous piston slap so it has always been noisy. Now I've got the beginnings of a collapsed lifter. I can dump 6K into it and put a nice new motor in it, but in the end, I've still got a seven year old car with a seven year old transmission, rear end, body, seats, electronics, etc, etc. I just don't want to be trying to go to law school and working full time and be worried about whether my car is going to get me where I need to go. I am not looking forward to getting rid of it. In fact I may have to have my wife drop the car off and bring the new one home since I will too heartbroken to drive. This is a registered one of one car that really should be in the hands of someone that can spend the time on it that it deserves. Being a daily driver is taking its toll on the car. I don't know how to attach pics or I would.
