help, high coolant temp

before you ask, I have a 2006 SS/SC and my only mod is an intake.
with that out of the way, I was parked in my drive way when i noticed my coolant temp was 210 and I thought to myself that's high even my G5 would start cooling off before that. so I popped my hood and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. so I then let it continue running to see if it'd kick the fans on shortly, it wandered up to 223°f before I said F this and shut it off and came inside to ask you guys for advice.
no my fans never kicked on.
my normal running temp is 180 when I'm driving around.

I've never seen it get that hot before tho, even sitting still when it was warmer out.
and I'm fairly sure my ic pump did take a crap too. I'm ordering a new one tonight or tomorrow to be safe

Are you low on coolant?

wait until it cools to check or add

wait until it cools

wait until it cools

so you don't melt your face.

nope. checked all that on my lunch break today. I'm in the habbit of checking the important fluids thanks to the girlfriends car since it eats oil and very slowly leaks coolant somewhere. its a 02 Saturn sc2 with 220k on it so yeah. haha.

Thermostat opening when it should? Does it push liquid into the expansion tank when the thermostat opens? Or pull it in from the tank?

i couldnt tell you, but it looks like its pulling coolant since the condensation build up in the reservoir.

S Series Saturn's just eat oil, doesn't burn, doesn't leak, just vanishes... even after 100k on a full motor rebuild....

If no one's solution is helping, you might be thinking issue based off experiences with other cars, I've done it before

Leaks coolant from the end tank; most likely spot. Drivers side, just below the hose inlet. New radiator needed.

Burns oil because stuck rings. Hop on sixthsphere.com aand read the sea foam procedure I wrote.

anything under 227* and you're fine. the fans will go on High at 226/227* the car was sitting still, and right now with the cold weather the car wants to warm up,. it will create more heat for itself like that. Let it do it again and then go take it for a drive it should drop within 2 minutes if not quicker down to the 180-190 range.

I'll try that after I get off tonight.

its only had like 10-15k miles on it since we replaced a pistion, crank, all the piston rings, all the crank bearings, and the radiator is new ish. and its had the clutch and flywheel replaced within the past year too. haha.

Then it sounds like your hone job wasnt so great.

Radiators on them break all of the time because of the angle on the plastic brackets.

Yep, your temp is within the normal range. Especially sitting still. My ss/sc got well into the 220's every time I got food at a drive through.

Also, the IC pump has zero to do with coolant temp...check to make sure it's broken before you replace it.

Also, assuming you do have the right coolant / water mix in there, you aren't risking any kind of engine damage until you're over 260. So you have plenty of wiggle room.

well I'm the second owner and I'm 90% sure the previous owner didn't change the pump with the condition it was when it got traded in at my work. it has 89,000 on it now. it needs it.
I'm still getting used to the way this car behaves, I'm just not used to the coolant going past 210-215 since that's the highest my G5 would get in traffic and the drive threw

That's weird. I pretty sure Vince didn't adjust when the fans come on? Because my fans come on at 205?
