Help in identifying a cobalt to purchase

New to Cobalts and need help choosing a year and model. I would prefer an SS TC but what I want is a cobalt that has a good engine that year that I could put a tubo on. So wouldnt have to be an SS. Also was there any year that the ss sc was better than other years? I heard the SC were a problem. What model and year would be best?

here is the breakdown

2.2l- base motor 05 to 09. some changes in 07 and it got vvt in 09
2.4l- 06 to 08 ss/na and sport models, unchanged through the years
2.0sc- 05 to 07, no changes
2.0tc- 08+ ss/tc

the lsj (2.0 sc) is a good engine, just hard to get 300+hp with the blower. with a turbo swap they have been proven to 400hp in stock form. a 2.2 or 2.4 isnt going to get that sort of power without a rebuild (forged pistons, better rods, ect), it will protest long before 300hp. the ss/tc is a good car, but if you want to push serious power it has its shortcommings. the direct injection system cant be upgraded so you need to add another fuel system to it to push the power. granted they can get 300hp with a computer reflash.

it all depends on what your goals are and what your budget is. for the cost of a new or slighly used ss/tc you could pick up an 05 ss/sc, slap a hahn turbo kit on and slaughter an ss/tc for way less money.

Where did you hear the s/c was a problem and why? The LSJ is an awesome engine.

As far as what to get, it totally depends on what you want. If you want to buy n/a 'cause it'd be cheaper, then turbo it, pick up a 2.4 SS/Sport. If you want a cheaper SS, get a SS/SC. If you want something brand new that makes easy 300whp, get the SS/TC.
