highway robbery

so i am driving down the road and i see a yellow 06 ss/sc at a used car lot. pretty big reputable place so i decide to take a look at it, because i want a second one because my wife bitches any time i talk about working on the one we have. she gave me the get your own and do what ever you want. hmmmmmm ok i can play that game. i am looking at it, not too bad could tell its an 06, big silly wing, ss non recaro seats, sunroof and all. so i ask the guy what they want for it and he tells me 19,800! i dont like to be rude but i laughed at him. he said well it only has 13k on it thats why. funny i bought my 07 brand new with all the bells and whistles minus onstar and sunroof. i am thinking my heated seats and lsd would balance out what the 06 had that it didnt, heres the best part guys, its right next door to a chevy dealership that has an ss on the lot for only 1k more! brand new!

I checked KBB for my car when it had ~10000 miles on it. It was worth more than I bought it for. About $21500...got it for $20500

ehh...not everyone is smart when buying a car. oh yeah, and it always feels good when you "think" you are talking a salesman down in price...when in actuality they are just dropping it to the real selling price.

well your in the same boat then as who ever buys that car i was looking at. you payed too much. i bought mine brand new for 20k so why buy a used one for 20? if you look around instead of jumping on cars, in this case right next door!, then you can find much better prices. my whole point is i thought it was funny they were trying to sell a car right next door to a chevy dealer for the same price a new one goes for. also if your car is worth 21 on kbb its really only worth a thousand or two less. no one is going to pay exactly what something is worth. so if kbb says 21 plan on easily being able to get 20 or 19 even. hence the car being listed at 21, 500. they planned on only getting 20 for it and they did. thats way off point though, sorry.

yea, but it felt pretty damn good to have the dealer bring out the invoice and show me how much they paid for it, and that they couldnt bargain lower with me

the dealers invoice they show you is not really what they pay. There's many different cash allowances, discounts, etc that lowers the actual cost for the dealer. Even if you buy a car at invoice price, they would still be making a couple of thousand on that sale not counting if you finance it. Then they make some off that also.

I bought mine for less than the invoice and GMS discounted price. Even at that price, the salesman made his 300 bucks, the sales manager made his money.... ya get the point.
