if your talking about the fire blanket that is attached to the bottom of the hood, its there for a reason to help in the event of an engine bay fire

Not really.

...Carbon fiber/fiberglass hoods have no blankets.

Mine fell off one time when I popped the hood, it was weird. I left it off cause Ive seen about 100000000000000000000 cars without them.

That's not true. It just becomes extra fuel for the fire. We discussed it when we were going through training at the GM proving grounds. They are mainly just there for sound insulation.

And I took mine off and cleaned the underside of the hood, and IMO it looked way better without it.

i put one on my car and its specific for fires under the hood. It is true but thats my experience, if the stock blankets arent for that it just shows even more how much gm doesnt think about things

What the hell do you think the blanket is going to do, melt into sprinkler water and put out the fire?

Again... aftermarket fiberglass/carbon fiber hoods do NOT have blankets...

water ain't even gonna put out that oil fire, LOL, i believe they're just insulation so your hood doesn't get so hot, no way they're ever gonna stop fire.

They are still referred to as "fire blankets". Although there is a lot against them working, the way they are supposed to work is by smothering the fire therefore allowing less oxygen to "fuel" the fire.

They have been proven to work in some cases.

Also if you look at older cars without them you will notice that the center of the hood where it gets hottest the paint gets faded and the clear coat starts to get shitty. That "fire blanket" helps the paint to stay looking nice for a little longer.

That's like referring to the parking brake as an emergency brake. GM refers to that as a hood blanket. It won't put **** out.

i dunno how it can stop oxygen when it doesn't cover up your front grill, or enclose you whole engine and seal the cracks on the side of the hood. You are entitled to your fire blanket, but to me its an insulator.

I've heard of this being the case also

but really 4-5 degrees doesn't mean all the much.

Remove if it you don't like it, you don't need it.

How is that when the thermostat determines engine temp?

I was told it had a dual purpose of being a sound deadening device and as an insulator and little to nothing to do with fire protection.
