How far will you take it?

I'm bored and the forum is slow, so i decided to get a feel for how far our members want to take their Cobalt SS (if GM ever gets around to producing them) Performance wise.

Well whenever they come out, I would like to get new headers and an exhaust. You gotta stop all that HP, so a rotor upgrade would come next. I 've heard the calipers are pretty decent.

Appearance wise i dont wanna do too much besides body kit and rims, but under the hood is a different story. I have to be killing a stock srt or i wont be happy and twincharging just sounds kick ass.

Appearance not as much as performance, but I want it to look good as well as go fast. Most likely I will be dropping more money into the engine than appearance

I agree. I'm not so sure about cams, but I want a header and full exhaust, bolt on's, some fuel and boost management and of course MORE BOOST.

As the aftermarket potential grows it's looking more and more like I won't be leasing this car.

I really want this car to be the first car i buy. Yes thats right i don't own my Z24 my dad bought it for me, BUT don't worry I give him money for the Ins. and thats hella high because I was a stupid a** kid when i started driving. Yeah If and when i buy this car I'm just gonna put some nice (not oversize) rims on and a drop keep it running good for as long as i have the car. I know i won't be buying this car this year or next so it might be awhile but i can wait. Oh if GM keeps that spoiler on the SS/SC I'd change it to a lower profile looking spoiler like (i think) the rksport 3 piece spoiler....i think thats who i'm thinking of.

This is going to be the first new car for me and def. the fastest so I'm really looking forward to some performance mods...the appearance of the car is fine for me, maybe some rims eventually but I def. want to do a heads/cam package, cat back exhaust and Stage upgrade on the s/c from GM performance parts. Then some suspension stuff and maybe a brake rotor upgrade. I'd really like nice solid horsepower...no juice for me.

THe only appearance mod planned so far is possibly replacing the stock wing with the Razzi one.

As for performance I'd love to get that header that's being made for the Ion right now.
And any staged upgrades if Chevy/GM performance decides to do that.

Who are the guys that are planning to do 320+ hp, race suspension, etc etc etc? I'd like to know what you're planning on doing and what you hope to have as your final outcome (sick drag car? crazy hp sleeper cobalt?).

Probably will depend alot on what GM performance parts come out for the SS S/C and what the warrenty is like. I don't plan to do a lot of untested mods on the powertrain until I am out of warrenty or covered under warrenty.

Yeah how do you plan on getting that much outta these cars? Seems like the block explodes at 280-300 horse from what I've been hearing.

That would be the internal components of the stock 2.2 eco. i.e. the crank, rods, bearings, pistons etc...

The 2.0 in the SS is " built" from the factory with perfomance spec'd parts.

I believe that theres a post on the forums here somewhere that the 2.0 can handle around 400HP with it's factory internals.

FYI, the turbo'd drag motor that chevy is launching this year in the cobalt drag program, that you can buy, is said to have 65% of the stock internals and cranks out over 500HP.

So it would seem that the 2.0 can bang out a pretty sick amount of HP for a 4 cyl.

We can only hope for factory backed, warrantied upgrades!!

Voodoo I'm right there with you, GM needs to give us warranty safe GM performance part mods for the SS, stage upgrades/heads/exhaust...whatever! as long as it gets me to 300 something HP and doesn't kill the warranty.

I think I'll just tint the windows and maybe get new rims. I like the stock ones though so it's not a big deal to me.

i'm going to try and keep myself from modding too much. I want this to be my daily driver (i have other plans for building a performance summer car). Therefore a 1-2inch drop, some 17 lightweight gunmetal rims, a header back exaust and any staged upgrades should do it for me, performance wise. I'll upgrade the system, and maybe a lip kit or clean body kit would do it for visual/audio.

i say this now, but i have been known not to be able to control my modding compulsion; so if anyone sees me going overboard tell me to get a project car.

Thinking about putting tints on mine... But I think the windows come with "Solar Tints" in them???? Confirmation on this please?? And if so, does this mean when it's sunny out the windows will get a bit "smokey" and at night, they'll stay clear!???

Wow you guys are creative, well beyond the means of GM.

Every Cobalt sold in 2005 will have "Solar-Ray light tinted" glass in it. This is different than "Solar-Ray dark tint" in that it is a lighter tint in the glass, very light indeed. The "Solar-Ray" aspect simply means that it is designed to block out a small percentage of the UV rays that do things like fade your upholstery and dash.

It's not going to change colors at night or protect you during "global thermo-nuclear war."

And no, I do not "want to play a game."

Laugh like you get it, ask questions later.

OK... Tints are going up on the windows.. and very very small mod to the car... KnN filter right into that airbox.... or possible complete intake!! and I am looking at the "TornadoFuelSaver" here is a link to it http://nukethehut.zoovy.com/product/FRSHTFS

thell me what you guys think of this?? Two people that I know have trown one in their car, and they both said that they saw better gas mileage and a small boost in HP..

I'm looking to bring the HP from 145 up to like 155 or 160 IFFFFFF POSSIBLE if not.. That's ok.... The car still looks good, and it gets me to where I have to be!!!
