How i jack up rear of car

So when i first got my Saturn Ion 7 years ago I put a trailer hitch on it for a bike rack for my mountain bike.
I have been using that as a jack point and it's worked fine. I bought an 09 ss cobalt and the only thing i don't like about the car is jacking up the rear.

I have been thinking about a way to jack it up since the first time i had to.

I just put rear pivot bushings in it and decided to try an idea. I measured the width under the rear spring perches at the tires/wheel. I cut a 4x4 about an inch shorter. drove the rear tires onto a step made of a long 2x4 with a shorter 2x4 on top. The long way, one was about two feet long, placed that in front of rear tire so the other end, two feet away was toward the front tire, then the second one about a foot long same way on top of that. Drove car onto those, needed the height for 4x4. plus jack.

Put 4x4 on jack pad, rolled it under rear axle at the spring perch, and lifted. Worked very well.
I jack very easy and had jack stands set and ready to slide under.
I am going to cut up and old bedframe and attach the angle iron to the underside of 4x4 for strenth, use 2x4 to make borders so jackpad is captured onto 4x4.
I will no longer dread having to jack the rear.
I was willing to take the risk and used a nice 4x4. Do this at your own risk.

I was hoping youd say you were using a piece of steel. I definitely wouldnt advise using wood although it may work in a pinch. Generally I just jack up in front of each rear wheel individually and put jack stands under to lift the rear.

I normally lift right behind the front wheel which lifts up the rear as well. That might be because of my XXX rear sway bar though...
When specifically working on the rear I prefer to lift on the rear suspension (twisting beam).

I got a nice 4x6 for about ten bucks, boxed in for the jack pad with 2x4, cut to length at home depot, fits on jack, roll under both spring perches on both sides, lift car and put jack stands at axle bracket on body, safe easy and fast.
