How to jack up a car and put jackstands?

alright, ive searched and nothing was clear. i am wondering how to properly jack up a cobalt and put her on jack stands, i have had people try to explaion it to me and me being so new to the terms i still have no clue. if anyone could somehow take pictures or something or explain it in lamer terms. i plan on having my balt sit over the winter @ home since im in college and i dont want to drive in the winter kuz we'll have my girls cavy to beat around. pictures would be best as im an idiot when it comes to something being described. thanks

jacking the car up is easy, dont do it by the front frame rail...(right paul?). behind the 2 front wheels, you will see a dip in the frame. put the jack under those and jack up. placing the jack stands, they go on the frame rails. if you look under the car, you will see rails (rectangular tubes) running from the front to back...place them there.

Jack your car up from behind the front wheels. On the SS there is an arrow that shows you where you are looking for

FIrst are you using the car jack in your trunk or a real jack?

the car jack uses a little lip that fits the shape of your car jack, this is what that arrow lines you up on

For a real jack, go to that same area and use the uni-frame rail. THere is a "D" shaped embossment on the rail. Jack from there, or forward

And for the stands, placement depends on what you are going to be working on. I typically place the stands under the engine bay fram rails (near where your control arms mount) see my avatar for ref

hope that helps

inhale is correct, do not jack the vehicle up from the frame rails,, it is okay to place jack stands there for support however.

If you try to jack the vehicle up from these slightly curved frame rails it can slip

you want to jack your car up for the winter? or did i misread your post?

I would just suggest putting pieces of plywood under each tire and a car cover.

I don't think your one to be laughing, haha.

This is a pretty legit question for someone who hasn't jacked a Cobalt before. You could really do some serious damage if it isn't done right.

I know this is old but I found it too funny not to post a reply as all relevant posts show up in searches regardless of date. That's how I got here.
If only you hadn't been too afraid of someone laughing at you for asking for help, it wouldn't have gotten this bad. Trust me, they were laughing at your car as they passed you.
