How and When?
How and When?
Im just wondering, everyone seems to have different reasons of owning a cobalt, are there any stories about how you got yours, when and why?
I sold my truck for a huge down payment and now im making small monthly payments, i also but a cobalt cuz its a very stylish chevy sports car and gets good gas mileage.

I had a 2002 Avalanche Z66 for over a year... i loved it, loved the ride, loved the power, loved it! then gas said "FU" to america, so i sold it almost a month ago and ordered a 2006 Cobalt SS 2.4L. It will finally be here at the end of next week and I can't wait. I picked it because its very sporty looking, has a new and better looking interior than any chevy up to this day, and so i hear, handles very well. oh, and its a CHEVY... a 4 cylinder american sports car... finally something to be excited over.
Although I have owned primarily GM cars, I did not get my Coblat out of blind loyalty.
I really think GM did a great job with this car. If I did not think so I wouldn't have bought.
The standard and optional power of the Coblats is very impressive and overall---it is at the top in its class. I have always been a fan of the 2.2L Ecotec---it is nice to see GM pumping up the power (2.4L and 2.0 S/C) I feel the ecotec rivals Honda for smoothness, plus it sounds better.
Secondly--they come in a 2 door coupe---which very few manufactures offer these days.
And styling is a home run. I like the coupe and sedan. To sum up----I am proud to own this little Chevy---and I tell everyone what a great car it is.

Not a real interesting story on my part but I'd owned a '98 Cavalier since I was 16 and she was good to me...got me through both high school and college. After I got a fulltime job out of school the money started to burn a hole in my pocket so I began car shopping. At the time I had no idea GM had released a new vehicle and had been looking around at other cars such as the Mazda 3, RSX and Civic SIR. One day online I decided to go to Chevy's website and came across a car called the Cobalt so I decided to check it out. From that time forward I knew I had found the car that was right for me. It then came down to deciding between the SS and a fully-loaded LS and I ultimately ended up going with the LS after a lot of research and time invested in figuring out monthly cash flows, insurance, etc.
Definitely have nothing bad to say about this car. Even though it's only running 145HP it is definitely a huge step up from my old Cavy (which was bought by a woman in her late 20s less than a month after I sold it) it's fun as all hell to drive, has enough power and toruqe to keep me excited and it's definitely an attractive car. The interior feels perfect, as RedCobaltSS06 said by far one of the best looking interiors on a Chevy to date. The best of all I am still driving an American made vehicle...it took me a long time to bring myself to even consider looking at imports but at the time no domestic companies had a car that got me excited (that I could afford both payments and insurance anyways)...the Cobalt definitely filled that gap

Exactly like you man, my monthly's will be the same and my gas bill will drop, very much to my excitement. I can't wait for that car to get here. all i've ever driven are trucks. A car, and an SS at that should be like putting this kid in a candy store.
I had a new 04 Cavy for about 10 months, but it was totaled when someone ran a red light into me. I started looking around at new cars again after that, and figured the cobalt ss would be a good step from that.
Wife Wrecked her half-a-beer oops Cavalier. (totaled it, someone elses fault) She commutes 100 miles a day and I didn't like the miles adding up on the Twin Turbo Stealth. I had never seen a Cobalt in person. Walked in looked at it & bought it that day, loved the no haggle w/no trade in GM Employee Purchase Plan! 05SDI
My story is pretty much the same. I got a 98 Cavalier when I was 16 (after my 85 Skyhawk decided to give us problems). It was getting up there, and every other month it was having to go into the shop to the tune of $700 here, $1000 there so I found an awesome deal on a Cobalt SS. I knew I wanted the SS from the day I heard about it. I like the Cobalt in general and interior wise any Cobalt was a step up from the Cavalier but I wanted to step up the power a bit too. Had I known about (and been willing to wait for) the 2.4, I might have gotten that but I did a lot of looking and comparing and research, I decided it was SS or nothing for me. (Believe it or not the 2.2 in the Cobalt only has 5 extra hp than the Cavi...and the Cobalt is 200lbs heavier.) Plus I wanted a good auto-x car that was already souped up enough to be fast but still had room for further improvements.

My story is like this ford ranger 97 new, kids would not fit so 99 chevy silverado 4x4 extended. Gas went up so 98 Honda civic beater car. Traded up to more comfort and performance to 2000 Honda civic ex. At 150,0000 miles it got really worn and I was tiered of the looks and performance. I needed something more American and more hours power but good gas mileage. I did not want to get the Alero, cav. I did want the corvette but could not fit kids in. So along came the cobalt commercials. I was really intrested and waited and waited till the SS/SC came out. I was at all of the Chevy dealers asking when they would get one. Then finnaly they got 2 in a red and a black one. I drove the black and was really impressed with the power. I was on the market for a new car for a long time and test drove G35, S2000, Corvette, BMW M3, Nesson SRE spec v, Honda civic type r, RSX-s and came to the conclusion that the Cobalt was really the one for me. So I got it and have been enjoying the ride vary much. Go GM go.
Hmm, I guess my story is pretty much like everyone else's. I had 2 S10's (a 2000 then a 2003), both with the ZR2 package. I liked both of them but the gas prices and the payments were making it somewhat prohibitive to have a truck. I liked the Cobalt SS/SC from the first pics I saw of them, and I'd still love to have one. Unfortunately it isn't practical for me right now, so I went with an LT Coupe. Even though it's not an SS I'm happy with it, and I have a few ideas up my sleeve for improvements. Nothing radical, but it definitely needs a spoiler so that will probably be first.
All in all I'm happy- I got a good-looking car, lowered my payments and insurance, and I'm getting at least twice the gas mileage I got out of the truck. There may or may not be an SS/SC in my future, but I plan on keeping this one as a daily driver regardless.

If GM hadn't built the Cobalt, I probably would have ended up with an SRT-4. Those really are the only 2 cars I was seriously considering.
My first consideration was a used 2001 Audi S4 (my dad has the a6 with the 2.7T motor)
but that would be too expensive to maintain. I also considered a WRX, but also too expensive.
I remembered the commericals for the Cobalt and went to a local dealer to get a look of one, and I loved it.
I did not even know an "SRT4" existed (I live in a cave) until I bought a Cobalt, but I would have still went with my Cobalt SS.
The Cobalt I bought was on the lot less than 24 hours and never test driven. This is my first *nice* and *good* car. I would not want to go used again after this, I'm so spoiled now.

I wanted either a RSX or a Cobalt 2.4, in the end i just like the cobalt more... plus its got a lot to do with loyalty. my dad has worked with GM for 24 years now. we get employee pricing on vehicles, discounted service, other little things. I love GM though, its not just blind loyalty. I love the Cobalt... I would never have picked a cavalier over a RSX.
I was originally going to buy a 2005 red srt4. The SS/SC was my second choice. I went to the dodge dealership and thought they were really nice imo. However, when I went to the chevy dealership, they had the employee pricing going on and my dad told me that he'd let me use his GM Points on my car. We calculated the price and it turned out to be 18 and some change which was cheaper (obviously) than the 22,740 the SRT4 had. So I took a Yellow SS/SC home that day. I belive it was July 25. I didn't even test drive it either

Man before i bought mine, which i knew i was gonna buy one anyways, but i researched the HELL out of it, then once i sold my truck i ordered it straight from the factory and had no car for 3 weeks so i just bumbed rides from my friends.
i've owned a cavalier since i was 16, very loyal car after all the **** i put it through too.. so i knew that if this was anything like the cavlier it would be the right car for me
plus both parents work for GM.. my garage looks like a chevy commercial (05 Yukon XL denali, 2000 C5, 97 firebird, 03 cavalier, and of course 05 Cobalt SS)
