I have some questions...

Hi everyone,

Let me start with a brief introduction.. my name is Matt, and I'm the current owner of a 1988 Monte Carlo SS. With gas prices on the rise, it's getting more and more painful to fill the tank. I'm looking for a car with good fuel economy, and power. I have anyways been a Chevy person, so anything I get has to be a Chevy, or at the very least a GM. I really love the classic muscle cars, and am not a fan of the whole compact rice/buzzbomb fad.

Anyway, I am seriously considering a Cobalt SS Supercharged. I was wondering a few things...

1. How much power is it capable of? I did read about the Stage 2 kit from GM, looks good.
2. Mufflers, are there any that will give it a nice rumble? I'm really not into the fart cans (no offense to those who like them).
3. It's front wheel drive. Those of you with experiance driving both front and rear wheel drive cars, please tell me how the fwd Cobalt compares to a rwd car.
4. Can it be driven in winter weather, or are there control issues?
5. Are there any known mechanical issues that I should know about before buying?
6. Is the high-rise spoiler/wing swappable with the low SS/LT spoiler? (Unless the high one has performance benefits, I don't care for it.)

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm grateful for any insight you guys can give me.

Matt

1. 1000 HP, as with any car all depends on the money you willing to spend. I think the stage 5 cobalt SS has about 6000 dollars of upgrades and weighs in at about 500 HP.

2. Magnaflow and Borla cat backs both keep you from sounding ricey. hell my magnaflow barely makes enough noise :'( but I like it, ultimate sleeper. The supercharger is what I want people to hear anyway LOL

3. Its not gonna be what your used too. Way better in rain and Snow, but not as fun, and less chance for your rear to go flying. Light torque steer will be noticable.

4. Sure, much better then a RWD car. The stock rubber is made for summer weather, so may not be great in the snow.

5. Not really, and nothing the warranty wont fix. If your not familar with a Stick you may burn out the clutch as many members have done.

6. I dont think its active, and yes can be hotswapped, or you can check out teh RK SPort low spoiler.

Oh yea and when your not driving like an @$$ or racing, this car gets awesome gas milage. It drives like a 4cyl cavi when your not boosting. This is an awesome side of a supercharger. I had a 4 cyl SE-R and I get better gas milage in this supercharged car

I drive very spirited and average 22-23 mpg and never do highway, and have never touched my 5th gear.

Thanks for the replies! I tend to have a bit of a heavy foot, but I don't street race or anything like that. Sounds like I've found a winner. Thanks again.
