if you were me...would you trade?
6 years is a long time to make payments on a USED car ! You will hate yourself making payments in the last couple of years. Also as one of the site's " senior citizens ", your income/lifestyle will change a great deal from 25 to 30.
Good luck with what ever you decide,
Steve.

i agree with the people on here saying it would be a huge mistake
it will be 8 years old when your done paying for it, paying an astronimical amount for it..if i was you i would just keep the balt and use that extra money to have fun while your still young...you have the rest of your life to be in debt, dont rush into it too fast

I was faced with a very similar decision to yours last year about this time. I had a Cobalt, I owed a **** ton more on it than it was worth and I wanted an STi. At that point I had to weigh a few things. 1) Could I honestly afford to buy the STi and not take a decrease in life style. 2) Would the STi serve a purpose that the Cobalt wouldn't or couldn't. 3) Would my wife let me. 4) Was my bank crazy enough to finance the Corvette like principal amount to get it.(Negative equity from the Cobalt was a biznatch) 5) Would it make me happy. The answer was yes to all of the above. The STi is the only car I've ever bought that I haven't second guessed my decision. If at the end of the day you think you'll be able to say that when you're making payments, paying insurance and feeding a thirsty STi then get it. Alot of people threw out alot of sound financial advice, but sports cars are never about sound finances(unless they're vintage Ferrari's and Porsches) IMO you won't regret getting the STi and the joy of driving it will surpass anything the Cobalt ever had to offer.
My insurance would increase $12 a month....I think I'm going to test drive it tomorrow.
Gosh, I still just don't know what to do. I know the STi would fit my needs better, but the extra 2 whole years of payments really isn't worth it.
The dealership just got the car, so maybe if I wait and it doesn't sell right away...they'll lower their price.
Do you guys think $27k is too much? It books at $29k stock, it has intake, exhaust, and tinted windows.
Can't dealerships include sales tax with the financing?

check out this website, LOW financing, i got %5.74 @ 72mo. , this may help you out, good luck! both are GREAT CARS!
damn i sound like a spam ad, LMFAO
www.weastern.org
just do the paperwork and DO NOT SHOW NEGATIVE EQUITY or ask the dealership to do a straight across trade for the total financed amount
They loan %100 of Kelly Blue Book retail + tax, tags, title fees.

if your seriously considering the STI get a compression check AFTER an extensive testdirve. with the radio OFF. if you dont like the STI get an 06 TR WRX and do a turbo swap. cheaper payment's and its still a nice AWD car with 4 door's.. im thinking of getting a TR wrx. to the STI guy in here can the trans handle the 300+ AWHP of a GT35r swap?
A 35r swap should net you much more than 300+. If I did a 35r swap I'd be furious if I wasn't deep into the 400s. As a rule of thumb you don't want to go much more than 300 on a stock WRX tranny. Most people shatter their transmissions with much less power than that though due to abusive launching and general ignorance on how to drive an AWD car. If you're looking for high HP numbers on stock tranny don't get a WRX plain and simple.
Sure, all you have to do is say "I'm willing to pay $27k OTD, if they say no then walk. Which intake does it have? If it's not a Cobb, Perrin or SPT piece I'd take it off. If the extra money isn't worth it to you then your answer is simple, the price doesn't outweigh the benefits and you should stick with your Cobalt.

I like STI's, LOTS. But in this case...I can't say I'd take it. The thing is, I'm worried about used performance cars. People usually don't keep them stock, and there is usually a reason why they traded it in. Its all about what makes you happy though. You'll still have a DSM, but I would probably look for one with more room. Get something that is best for you, and I don't think a used STI is, but it matters what YOU care for. If I would ever buy an STI (I love the 06-07 in white and black), I would get it used. Know that my ass is one of the first in it and I know EXACTLY whats going on in that engine. This can also be obtained by an engine swap which to me is just as good..but mroe costly in SOME instances. Do what you have to do. The STI won't be going away anytime soon, there will be others.
PS- 22B STI's PWN!!!! I want one!!!
I'll have to disagree with you there dude. Don't get me wrong, not talking about performance. We all know the Subbies are pwnage beasts, but to everyone...its different. To some people, having the fastest AWD/RWD car that could beat the old one isn't important. Anyone can enjoy anything they drive in.
I was just saying that, to her, her DSM talon could be exactly what she wants, and she may find out that she enjoys driving the cobalt more than an STI. I've driven both (ooooohh how I want a 22B STI....), and I think they are equally fun to drive, with me being a bit baised for the balt.

I'll be much happier with the extra room I'd have...I want a roomie car, but I don't want to have to get stuck with a slow POS either. I thought about waiting til the new EVO X comes out...but the price tag on its going to be pretty high, not to mention its going to be a half a second slower than the old EVO's.
How much faster do you think the car is with just the intake and exhaust? You think gas mileage is a little better also?
so you think its running real lean? Maybe a bad buy then, depending on how much it got romped on...
I keep trying to think the STi is alot like my Talon, though they are completely different...

Ok, I'm torn.
There is an 05 STi at a car lot I'm thinking about getting. Its black, prefect shape, and has intake, turbo back exhaust, and a turbo timer. It also has 10500 miles, which is what my 07 Cobalt has right now. Asking price is $27000. blue book is $29000
Basically, my payments on the balt are 450 for another 4 years. Getting this car would make my payments 540 for 6 years....
I'd like to get a nice AWD and replace my AWD Talon with a nice FWD Eclipse GS-T or something, just to get good gas with and drive to work. I'd also love the 4 doors, cause I have a kid and a dog....soon to be 2 dogs cause I'm getting a husky-wolf hybrid
I can afford the payments, but is it worth it? Should I wait til I've paid more on the Cobalt? Should I say screw it altogether cause I'll get raped on trade-in? Or should I just be happy I already have an AWD...even though its still only 2 doors....
