Infomation On Valet Keys?

Ok, I have this problem. The problem i am having is when ever i take my car in for something (mostly Inspections) the car comes back with 2-4 miles on the trip meter and..i know you do not need to take the car for a 2-4 miles drive for inspection... Now ive chewed out the people and of course they deny it but i was wondering, is there a way to make a valet key for a 05 cobalt? Is there some type of unit i could install to limit the rpms? anything?

Best thing to do is stay on site while they do the inspection and if a drive is necessary, insist that you go wherever the car goes.

BTW is this your 2.2? You should be able to get a Dashawk unit.

Its hard to do as places around here are always busy and i work every day. I would like to have this option anyway too.

Does this unit have valet mode? I just hate the awkward shape of it haha.

Normally Valet keys give them the ability to drive the car but not unlock the truck or glove box IIRC.

It has a "spy" mode that will tell you what's been done, RPMs and stuff like that. I mean they have to be able to start the car and drive it around the lot. There's not a whole lot you can do to allow them to do your job but not take the car off the lot.

I guess if you had one of those GPS tracker things you could set and alert if the car left the dealership, but outside of that you can't exactly do anything to prevent them from taking it somewhere, mostly you can just find out what happened to it while you were gone.

Other option is hiding one of those keyhole-sized cameras somewhere to capture who took your car and where.

Exactly. Valet = car is still driveable.

That would be more of a tuning thing. Not sure if the Dashawk will do that. If I really suspected they were doing something I'd be more inclined to catch the person doing it.

Its just a joy ride, and yes i would do the same thing if a car like mine came in. I cant tune figured someone somewhere would have designed a unit or somesort to wire into the harness to limit the rpms when turned on.

Sorry, I don't go for the whole joyride thing no matter what kind of car. I bitched one dealer the hell out for peeling tire across the parking lot in mine, then the second dealer I took it to had the nerve to take a customer out for a test drive in my car.

The other thing to think about, this is just what popped into my head - we both know they're not driving the car the way you or I would because it's not their car. So what happens if they go ripping out of the lot, cut it a little too close and cut someone off and then need to GTFO of the way to avoid an accident? Limiting the revs would NOT be a fun thing to do in that case. Yeah, I know, they'd be liable, but still. I'd prefer to keep my car in one piece. The ******* driving the car, meh, don't care what happens to them.

Well in that case. Doesn't matter.

I would just do some searching around the interwebz and see what you can find.

I have had a few instances of people abusing my car. Let me tell you, it sounds very obvious when they do LOL.

Valets about 1/3 of the time will take the car down the street and floor it no realizing that I can hear if over half a mile away.

Ford Dealer called me to tell me that the lot attendant got the keys to my car and had a joy ride in it, and was sent home for the day with disciplinary action. Very commendable for them to be so forth coming with telling me that.

Body shop had some paint done, and an alignment after hitting a curb and the shop employee who drove it from the alignment shop back to the body shop almost lost complete control of the car, and he told me that straight up. Told me that my car was too powerful, and I told him that it was more a case of his inexperience (as I am still a novice at driving my car under WOT).

I had a guy at my local dealer fired for peeling out in my car... I picked it up from some body work.... and when I looked at it, There was rubber all down the sides of my car... And it was all captured on the CCTV cameras in the lots... He did a huge burn out and then ripped the E-brake in a turn...

Next time you get an inspection of anything dont have them drive it... that way if the suspension falls apart or they forget to replace a bolt and the car loses control, you can blame the dealer and sue!

So it's a win-win. They don't drive your car, AND you get a bunch of money on top of it. Scoreeee.

Oh, and a valet key will let them do whatever they want except for go in the glovebox and trunk. They can always open the trunk with the interior popper and, well, WTF do you gotta hide from them that you gotta keep in a glovebox? lol

1990-95 ZR1's had a valet key feature that when turned on cut out a majority of the power. I did think it was a separate key but it might have been just a switch...I've only seen one once and it was a longggg time ago so i dont remember so much i just remember it was a big deal.

Sorry, but...you said you take your car in to get it inspected, but you bitch when they drive it? How do you expect them to figure out if something's not right, without driving it? You need to be able to listen to a car while it's going down the road, to be able to properly diagnose it. If you keep them from driving your car, or limiting **** on it, they might refuse to work on your car, because they can't properly inspect it.

Find another dealer you trust.

Meet my friend that owns my Chevy dealership I bought my Cobalt at.

"Hey take me for a ride"
"Sure"
"Now, I don't want to go over 100, but we can see how fast we can get there"
