I am currently researching the Cobalt. What I have concluded so far is the frequency of engines bogging down, shutting off, or fuses blowing. Is this a widespread problem due to manufacturer error, or individual driving habits? I've also researched a Dodge SRT-4. Clearly quicker, but not by a wide margin. Is it true that SRT-4's have been known for tranny problems?

Clearly, I am looking for a attractive looking car with sufficient boost to shut off the wannabe neo-car clubs composed of 16 year olds running in town with ricers that sound like loud John Deeres in agony. I especially hate it when they run next to me and then downshift to expose a obnoxiously loud APC muffler with 18 stickers peeling from the noise. Not only does this hurt me ears, it royally ticks me off.

I just want to enjoy the feel of genuine boost. Anybody got some suggestions on a good car to get please let me know. I am new here, and look forward to hopefully trading experiences in my next newfound blaze of glory.

scat welcome to the forums. The srt is quicker stock for stock, but the cobalt ss is a more complete car imo. It has been documented in various car magazines that the cobalt is a very quick and solid car. It is very comfortable even on long drives. My car has close to 2,000 miles and I have yet to have any problems.

The car also gets many on lookers and head turns just about everywhere I go. So I think its a much more attractive looking car then the srt-4, which lets be honest, from an outside appearance stand point is a neon with some added ground effects and a wing.

The srt-4 is great from a performance stand point no doubt about it, but the cobalt is just a step or so behind. With the on coming GM upgrades and growing support from many aftermarket vendors, the cobalt won't be behind for long.

Get a cobalt ss

Thanks for the welcome. I've heard mostly good things about the Cobalt S/C. Pound for pound, HP wise the car has great hp to power ratio. Now the car looks very attractive. But the wing has got to be a little smaller, as i've heard it impedes the view from behind.

How well does the Cobalt S/C handle if you get the slip differential option? I've heard this eliminates torque understeer. I'm also worried about insurance. How much would it be for a 22 year old? I'm sure not as bad as a GTO or other V-8.
