I thought Honda accesories were expensive! But a Honda cabin filter at least has a plastic trim around the leading edge. Sorry guys/gals but this GM owner is getting tired of all this little crap we have to deal with! This is my first and certainly my last domestic vehicle I ever own I have more rants about this car but will shut my pie hole
bitch bitch bitch. this has got to be one one the most retarded posts i have ever seen. "i dont know how to price shop so i'm gonna buy a honda" gimme a break. if you think you will have better luck finding reasonably priced parts for a honda, GOOD ****** LUCK pal! honda, toyota, mazda; they are machines just like the cobalt is a machine, THEY ALL BREAK AND THEY ALL COST MONEY. welcome to owning a car. there is no such thing as import magic as they break as much as anything else (and their parts cost 2x as much) if you drove a honda, you would be bitching that the filter costs too much because it has that "plastic trim around the leading edge" that seems to mean so much to you. and did you just try to hold the srt-4 up as a standard of quality? jesus christ man!

+1 rep for halfj99. couldnt have said it better

First post for me here, but the price can be had for anywhere from $11.00 to $16.00:

http://www.innerauto.com/browse/make...C+Cabin+Filter
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

This last one requires vehicle entry. After going through the search engine, you'll find two different brand of filters, an ATP Part # GA12 {Vent Filter} for $11.32, and a ACDELCO Part # CF125 for $15.04.

Apologies if these prices/sources have already been listed.

For your information, This had nothing to do with cabin air quality. It was a report on the materials that the interior was made out of. That's why it said it took "samples from the seats, steering wheel, and dash" and tested them for chemicals known to cause everything from allergic reactions to birth defects. It is a good thing to know and wasn't something I was aware of! +1 rep for it!

wow... ive owned many many cars imports and domestics. i happen to think this cobalt is one of the best ive owned. it seems to handle great the ride quality is great its got some power and they still havnt reached its limits. it looks cool, and it was very inexpensive. the hondas i have owned ran great..... broken. the minute you try to fix anything on them you run into more and more problems it just isnt funny. but that could have been my luck playing its part anyways. good luck with your next import... your gonna pay more out of the box for less car and then pay way more to keep it in good condition

Bullshit.

It's the most refined domestic automobile I've driven in 23 years (probably because it's actually european).
If you want/need more power.........buy a car at a higher price point. It's that simple.
A 350Z/G35 is a bulletproof starting point if you've got the dough. Add another 10-20 thousand bucks, and your off to the races......litteraly.
When I was a teenager, a powerfull 2.0 liter engine produced 85 HP at the crank!.
The Ecotec platform has been aplauded by engineers the world over as being superb.
If you want to drag race your buddies, build a smallblock and dump it in an old Chevelle or something.

I wonder if the vents would blow more air with it out. Its there for a reason I can't see removing it. Sounds like a good idea to get some more flow in your face but once you start sneezing from all the **** you are breathing in you won't like it anymore.

Oh, i didn't think about it as far as flow/power go's. Then again, I don't mind a lil sweat while I drive with the windows down + Sunroof back. And in the winter, ya can only have it so hot for so long.... I donno? To each there own I guess

Stop hating on the supercharger. Long after your turbo charger needs a rebuilt, the supercharger will still be running. I dont understand why all you kids like Turbos so much.

The Cobalt is a nice little car. If you think an import for the same price range could do as well then by all means knock yourself out and go get it. But don't be surprised when an SS like the one you have blows your doors off stock for stock. Fastest 4 banger under $20g's made today! WOOT!

All cars have problems, none are perfect but if you dwell on all the negatives then no car will ever be fine for you.

Yeah seriously, i'm running a 23 year old t3 turbo on my SX, that has no shaft play and spins just fine. I think that most turbo failures come from people that don't know how to take care of stuff

I changed mine at 35000 and man was it BAD! Dust just pouring out of it! Its a really good filter, that's why it costs so much. I forget how many microns but its good! If you smoke in your car, you def want to keep one in and change it about every 30000 or so.

Turbos last a long ass time I don't know where you got it that they don't. I had a 1980 Turbo Trans Am for years and its turbo was like 20 some years old and still bosted into the high 20 psi range daily.

The car was a turd red light to red light but on the highway you better have something from Italy or Germany if you wanted to try to keep up.

those were 301 cid Pontiac V8's... when installed as a NA engine, they were 105-120hp! They NEEDED that turbo! As for longevity, one rule that I always had with my turbos (Merkur XR4Ti. Dodge Daytona TZ) was that after pounding the **** out of them, it let them run for a couple of minutes... I had read somewhere that if you beat on a turbo engine and shut it down, the oil cooks on the bearing surfaces and actually pits them. I want to say that the condition is called 'coking', but I'm too lazy to google it. After a while the pits get so bad that it allows the impeller shaft to wobble and as it wobbles, it gets worse and worse until the turbo fails.
Most people don't have the time it takes to let that engine cool down, or are just plain ignorant of the requirements of a turbo engine. Even as beat to hell as my Daytona was (153,000 miles), i still ran synthetic oil in it and used the 93 octane (even though I'm pretty sure it would've run on kerosene by the time I got it).

Eh...

By the way, Jackalope, did you ever see the 20th Anniversary Trans Am that had the 3.8L Turbo in it? Rare and scary... I remember reading that the drivetrain was more or less lifted from a Buick Grand National.

Yup I've seen em and driven em too and they are nazty! And those old 301's were turds till you cramed 25 psi of boost with 100 octaine race fuel into em ten it would fly!
