"It's safe to drive" - Dealership

So today I took my car into the dealer to have a knocking checked cause I had to drive up to Central Mich Uni. I wanted to make sure it wasnt anything that was gonna put me on the side of the road..

So much for that.

They say they need to replace my steering column but they wouldnt get it fixed till monday, after my trip... so I ask, is it safe to drive, or can I get a loaner and leave it with you? They said since Im only 19 they cant loan me a car, but it's safe to drive on and should get you to CMU and back fine...

Nope...
After about 30 minuites on I-75, the knocking and slight rattles turned into violent shakes and vibes.

After about 3 min of that shaking, (i was gonna pull off at the next exit)... my ******* front left wheel falls off goin about 55-65mph... managed to keep the car straight and get it to the sholder... then my wheel rolled up to about 5 feet behind me.
took pics of it on the wrecker...
Rotor

Well liner/trim area paint f'd up and dented up.

Lack of studs..

Front quarter bubbled out..

More lack of studs...

Front lip is scratched to hell, and the mounting holes on my wheels are pretty beat up, haven't inspected the tire yet tho... gotta wait till i get home.

You or your parents may want to contact a lawyer to see what your options are.

Did you get it in writing from the dealership that said it was "safe to drive"?

ouch man, i'm glad your ok, that could have turned out much worse. as for the car they have to fix it, plus give you free oil changes for life for almost killing you. i have a quick question, sorry that it's off topic, but in your sig it says 06 arival blue ss/sc, i though they only made arival blue in 05? i was just confused, good luck with your car

It doen't have to be in writing. Did your witness hear them say it was safe?

Like, idk... ever had snow caught in your rims or not been alligned properly? that what the vibes were like right befor it happend.

the knocking was a hollow knocking comming from the front driver side of the car and if right before acceleration and after i let off the accel, it would kind of pulsate a bit... thats what prompted me taking the car in.

Blame your sis or Davis on this one... Remember when i took the rim off over break, and the wheels were literally torqued to like 200+ pounds... yeah thats way more stress then the lugs are made to handle...

I bet a lug or two backed slightly off making the wheel lose causing the vibs and knocking... and then this happened. I had something similar happen to me in my Iroc.. Had an intense shaking combined w/vibs and it turned out that right after the intense vibs and knocking i snapped two studs.

you were complaining of a clunk that turned out to be the colum, so did they actualy have the wheel off the car???

the only way that happens is either lose or overtorqued wheel nuts. and yes lose nuts will cause the studs to break off (the wobbling stresses the studs and they snap). they gotta fix it if they actualy had the tire off the car. now that looks like its got a bunch of body work, id bet the car will be in the shop for at least a week. even though your 19, demand a courtesy car, they screwed your car up and now your without wheels till they fix it, your the one being put out by there screw up, they need to give you a car.
