I'm hoping that there is someone on here who has experienced this. I want to buy out my cobalt at the end of my lease. Is the buyout price negotiable? I've looked online and researched it, and it's heavily debated. I would really appreciate some first hand knowledge.

 

my dealer told me that the buy out, is only what the going rate at auction is for that car at that milage and condition. but thats from the dealership, i wouldnt trust them with my life.

 

My Sales guy told me the price is negotiable, and also that if you sign it into someone elses name after the lease to buy to it, its cheaper. I totally didnt understand that, but I ended up just turning it in early and getting a TC. Sorry i'm not to much help but figured I would let you know that.

My car is an 05 black LS sport coupe 5spd with 35k, which seems like a rare model for some reason.
On GMAC.com my buyout is $8995, but my 4 year lease isn't up until April. I'm supposed to turn it in with 48k miles, so I'm under in that aspect.
My brother wants to buy this car from me, but obviously doesn't want to pay $9k for it.
05 Cobalts sell for $11-12k at dealerships around here, but the KBB is ~$7k.
So I'm not sure if the dealership will want to take it to resell, or if they will auction it for much less.

Further thoughts...?

 

is your car leased? because if it is, and you have those mods on it, you are going to be stuck with it, you can't even tint the windows on a lease without getting "fined" for it...

 

yes it's a lease, and i'm buying it out anyways, so the mods don't matter.
I have tint, debadged, painted front bowtie, eyelids, and smoked rear corners. That's nothing I can't put back to stock minus the tint.

 

you can have the tint removed as well, but its still a bitch to go back stock with a car... adding aftermarkets parts is easy, but in a lot of builds parts that aren't necessarily needed, don't go back in, and it can be a problem when you want to go back stock...

 

that's why I only did simple things. My eyelids are just vinyl that can be peeled off, my corner markers can be thinned back to red...

yeah dud i know im buying mine out lol, that was the plan from the beginning the payments were cheaper thats why i went with the lease, cuz when i bought it i didnt have the job i do now making 50k/yr.

I don't think the buyout price is negotiable at all, it's in the contract and what you are expected to pay...at least that's how it is here in canada.

 

i don't see how it would be cheaper. I negotiated the car down, and basically split the value into 2 (the lease, and baloon).
I was able to afford a new car while I was a full time student. Now that I have a real job, I'm looking to buy a car this time.
