I bought an 06 SS/SC with no back seats. It has seatbelts still but the bottom cushion/seat isn't there. Is it legal for me to shove someone back there in a pinch? I bought it pretty cheap so I don't want to spend money on them. Plus, I will never be back there

 

Legal or not please don't have a passenger back there and expect them to be safe in the event of an accident. Without the seat I don't think you could expect the seat belts to line up and function properly. Just get some seats out of an old base model and throw in there. I wouldn't think you would have to give hardly anything for them

i would say it depends on the state. In MI, rear seatbelts arent required for adults.

But, getting a rear seat shouldnt cost you much.

 

Since you don't have a rear cushion the belts would not function properly. That would be classified as a modification to the restraint system and your insurance would not cover any injuries that occurred to your passengers in the event of a accident. You would be solely responsible. A rear seat is a lot cheaper than any medical bills.

 

You can even put a base model cloth seat in

 

If it's a coupe I will sell you my back seats.

 

Thanks guys, I bought the car dirt cheap, I just won't put anyone back there then. I don't feel like spending more money on it.

 

You could probably get base model back seats cheaper than a tank of gas
