Lightening the Cobalt

I have a question. How can we lighten up our cobalts?

I will soon be taking out my air conditioner, spare tire, and possibly even the rear seats. Eventually I will buy light weight wheels. What else could I possibly take out to make the car lighter?

Change glass to lexan. Remove interior moldings. Remove radio, power steering motor, heater core and fan, trunk insulation, back seat, hood insulation, carpeting, mats, replace hood with fiberglass or carbon fiber.. etc.

run no hood & trunk at the track...haha... but really strip it bare, radio, speakers, all seats, buy a lightweight racing seat, all interior trim, headliner, and run as little gas in your tank as possible. Power window/lock mecanismes(sp), door panels, aluminum suspension parts

I already have a cf hood. The trunk lid is not going to save me a lot of weight by switching it to cf. I like the radio/speakers idea and racing seats. I never heard of changing the glass to lexan. What is that like a type of plastic?

I don't think I will go as far as removing the headliner, carpeting, interior trim, or door panels. I just want to maybe take off close to 100 lbs.

My cf hood, no ac, no rear seats, and no spare, is that possibly 50-75 lbs? i know the seats don't weigh that much but the spare is pretty heavy.

My friend might have a video on how much 150-200 lbs costs, it might be up tonite. Lets just say the cars are all equal and weight is the deciding factor.

You may also want to go on a diet. I'm not being an ass and you may be skinny but everytime I hear about weight saving it reminds me of this guy who was braggin up buying a super expensive exhaust that saved like 15lbs over his old one. The guy weighed in at about 350 himself. I always chuckle when thinking about that. I'm not making fun of fat people either so don't take this wrong. I'm fat myself but before I worry about shaving lbs off my car I will do it off my fat ass first.

If he gets any skinnier, we may be able to turn him sideways and not be able to see him anymore....lol a diet would NOT be healthy for him

didn't read everything, but if no-one else suggested it

Just pull the pass seat, 2 bolts, and it comes right out

That and the spare tire are quick eand easy track day diet

I've heard the back seats come out fairly easy too.

Oh and by the way, how exactly do you remove the rear seats? I was looking and could not find any bolts and what not. I know how to fold them down but wtf, where are the bolts????

leave the AC alone.... it's a direct mounted unit and you need to have it to keep the belt in place. unless someone makes an idler pully that acts in it's place.

remove the carpets, get the heat gun out and scrape up all the sound deading material.

they also make super lightweight batteries.

also, take out the radiator, just fill the coolant spaces in the block with cement.

like they said every 100lbs is like .1 off in the 1/4. are you really gonna suffer with no ac or radio for a 10th? unless this is going to be a hardcore racer or you have a second car to drive during the warmer months id just keep it all in there.

Each seat is 50 lbs so taking one out for the track is a very good idea. Plus you could replace the driver seat with one that weighs half as much. The rear seats are super light so no savings there.
