locking gas cap?
locking gas cap?
having trouble locating locking gas caps online. tried searching the forums. does anyone have a reliable website/link to a locking gas cap for cobalts? i read that we have some type of screen in the neck of the gas tank to prevent people from being able to syphon but i would still rather have a lock on it. i dont trust some people who walk through my neighboorhood. already had cars broken into for coin change..

Putting sugar in your tank doesn't do anything. Sugar doesn't dissolve it gas, it might clog your filter if a **** ton is put in.
Can anyone confirm that we have a screen though? That's pretty nifty.

Pretty sure GM has had a screen on all of their vehicles for awhile. I know my dads last three generations of Sierras, two suburbans and my moms Terrain all have screens. I just assume we have it too since we don't have a lock at all.
Suger actually does move through a cars fuel system. It can clog fuel injectors, gum up the top of valves and things of that nature.
Trust me.. I've had to go through cars to fix problems caused by sugar in the tank.
tell that to the guy who had his Malibu towed into our shop with sugar in his tank from his ex.... thousands of dollars later....
The only way sugar can damage an engine is if it gets passed all your fuel filters and into your engine, and then it would do it the same way dirt/sand does. It does not dissolve in gasoline. Period. End of story.
If it got passed the fuel filter she could have just put sand or dirt in it and done the same thing. There would have to be underlying reasons for it to work (or a junk fuel filter that can't filter large granules). My guess is she put sugar in his tank god knows how long ago and his engine blew from something else. (I'll give you a MAYBE being lean from a super clogged filter, if thats possible).

You cant just go to autozone or advance and get one?
That's where I got mine (Forgot exactly but one of those two places)
Gladly.

I've also heard of it happening to a couple of local people, and even once a car parked a couple down from mine when I was in High School.
Salt / sugar does get through the filters, that's why they're used when someone wants to vandalize you. The main story I remember is a Jewish S2000 owner with a ton of mods and some neo-***** didn't like the guy (for some reason), they cut his soft top open, popped the hood / gas release and put salt in his tank and started the car until it blew. Then they cut all of his wire harnesses they could see and slashed swastikas all over his seats and soft top and into the paint.

Looks like the Stant 10511 might fit your car. I bought one. It works. Only prob, I can never remember which way to stick the one-sided key in the keyhole.
Bought one from autozone, was the first thing I did when I bought the car 2yrs ago. Have had no problems w/it at all. I think I paid $20 on it but for me & the way things are these days I am not risking some POS pouring anything in my tank.
