o, and if bums hit you up for money, all you'll contribute to is them buying some crack. don't give in. they have a talent of spotting out of towners, and coming up with some bs story about how it's new years and they can't give their kids anything for dinner. don't fall for it
I wonder if there some cool places inside the buildings in times square where you can get to see the ball drop, though I know they'll be expensive as hell

Why not take the train? I have taken the train from buffalo ny to new mexico. It was pretty cheap. Then you can walk were ever or take a cab, it would be easier than getting stuck in nyc traffic with the balt.

Comfort-wise you should be fine. I've driven a Corolla from Oakland CA to Vancouver BC (about 1000 miles) or 15 hours and the seats were plenty comfortable, in my opinion the SS seats are way more comfortable though.
That being said make sure your hotel has secure parking because I'm sure there is more than one person in NYC who would love to steal your car. (My grandfather lives in Manhattan and has had 2 cars disappear from in front of his apartment, neither car was as nice as the SS). Traffic aside driving there especially on New Years seems like a poor idea to me. I think the train is an excellent option especially if its only going to take an extra 5-8 hours.

So I got couple questions for you guys. I'm planning to take some vacation on New Year's and head to NYC with the GF. Now from Chicago to NY is like freaking 14-Hour drive. I don't want take a rental or fly over there.
1. How comfortable is the Cobalt for long trips? What's your longest trip in the Balt? My longest trip in the car prob 3 Hrs. I know our seats are not the comfiest, just wanna know if my back will hurt a lot.
I have snow tires on my car too,
2. Is it recommended to drive that much of a distance with snow tires? Also, I dunno if my car will hold up if I encounter a snow storm on the way
Suggestions/Opinions?

neither my 05 base or my 2007 SS/SC had snow tires... i can't help you out on that front.

ok well i never really took a long trip in my IRL.. but it had leather so it would have been comfy.. my mom's E300 wagon on the other hand.. was AMAZING on a 9 hour drive up the 5 to norcal.. made stop's along the way for food/snaks/restroom of course. jus make sure you keep adjusting your seat.. dont sit in the same position for to long if you can avoid it.
you want to know how confi it is lol i just got here to arizona from chicago and i had a blast lol the seats werent that bad lol the only prob was i felt like kept sliding down my seat with this leather seats but sc cobalts are killers on the curves lol and gas milage is king here lol 430 on one tank 30 to 29 mpg is what you might get
i drove from NJ to ND straight (22 hour drive) and it wasn't too bad. but then again i love my recaro's
the only part that sucked was my backseat was full of stuff (including 2 cats) so when i wanted to get some sleep i couldn't lean back but oh well.

i drove from ct to canada and it was 14 hours to get there. it wasint bad at all. we would stop at rest stops thats it. im driveing down to florida in this up comeing summer thats also a long drive.
Kind of off topic, but seeing as you are from Wahpeton, can you tell me how well the Cobalt does with the ND winds?
as far as getting into a building to see the bal ldrop, not a chance at this point
basiclly, NYC is not a nice place. i would not take my car there. people are disrespectful, and could care less about other peoples propert. Have you ever seen people pulled over in the city because of an aiccdent? nope, because no1 stops, people will hit your car and keep driving. and when someone is pulling out of aspot, they abck up or pullforward until they bump ur bumper then pull out. Park your car somewhere on the island and take the train in. driving will be a BITCH!
I drove from Charleston, SC to Memphis, TN/Arkansas state border. Took 14 hours 30 minutes parking space to parking space. As far as comfort goes I was pretty comfortable the majority of the way but my back did start bothering me a little at about the 9 hour mark. Granted that's probably just 9 straight hours of driving and sitting in one position but I often sit forward kind of leaning on the wheel and it helped. I only stopped to for drive-through food, gas, and bathroom so I didn't have a whole lot of stretching and relaxing.
As said before high-rise spoiler will become your enemy & cruise control was odd, my buddy was following in his civic and uphill cruise control went 1-2mph slower than what i set it at and down hill about 1-2mph faster which got really annoying for both since he'd have to adjust as well to follow.
I also found out my speedometer is 2mph off all the time by gps & buddies car and I averaged 29mpg on the whole trip with a max of 33mph to a tank.

i didn't think my leather ss seats where that bad my longest trip in the cobalt was about 3- 3 1/2 hours.. the heat is very nice this time of year.. good luck in NYC on new years! park far away and walk. thats probably the best idea.. park in a parking garage
haha you dont want to go to NYC on new years.. trust me.. think traffic is bad in chicago.. and then if your going to watch the ball drop.. dont even bother.. ull see a little speck of flashinlights go down.. if you can even get into times square lol
Back in June/July I took a trip from Florida to Pennsylvania in my SS/SC. Took 14 hours, I drove the whole time only stopping for gas/pee breaks. Its wasn't to terrible. I've been in worse riding cars. I also averaged 34 mpg with the AC on cruising at 65mph. I left with a full tank, stopped in Columbia, SC for fuel, then stopped again around Harrisonburg, VA. I had over half a tank by the time I got to my uncles in Carlisle, Pa
to get anywhere near times square on new years you have to camp out for a day or 2 on the street. times square is a mess every day, but for new years better get there early.
o yea i love the city i go there all the time.. but new years nope never i did it once and never again haha..
eh it depends. the car does kinda get tossed around if the wind is strong enough. so i don't suggest taking your hands off the wheel much. and i try to stay closest to where the wind is coming from so i don't get blown into a ditch.
