Unhappy Longevity of Motors

Lightweight comparing to the Eclipse.

I seem to see more GS Eclipses than the GST Eclipse. Could one assume that this is the same indication of whats to come with the TC Cobalt? I know we are comparing apples and oranges here but they have similarities i suppose.

I'm debating on trading in my 2007 2.4 for the Turbo. But many factors seem to weigh in.

1. negative equity I have in my loan.
2. cost of insurance.
3. The length that the motor will run.
4. I have a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty.

I guess I want more power but all of the negatives seem to out weigh the positives. Suppose that I am hoping that someone might have an Idea that might push me to do it. I dont undestand how i keep talking myself out of something that I would love to have.

IMO, pay off your car first, then go from there.

The SS/TC will have the 100K warranty anyways.

1. The negative equity on your loan is of course something that plagues anyone who trades in their car before paying it off - either pay your loan off faster and reduce the amount or pay it off totally before getting your TC

The cost of insurance....well that sucks even for me and my '07, thats not gonna change till you get older.

The length of the motor running time - remember its how you drive it, this ecotec powerplant is awesome, at pulling 250 runs on a 1200hp dragster with the same block. Your a 2.4 with VVT, so you've got a couple more parts to break than a 2.2, but overall I'd say this powerplant is long lasting - once again it all depends on how YOU know you drive, hard or not.

The 7 year bumper to bumper is the deciding factor, as long as you don't break something they claim is abuse, your golden for repairs for 7 years, that'll be plenty of time to pay off the entire loan plus the negative equity from your last loan..

I'd say go for it.

Exactly what I was getting ready to say. They sold ALOT more RS/GS Eclipses than they did GST's and GSX's. Just like you see alot more 2.2 Cobalts driving around...........but that dosent mean they're gonna outlive the 2.0's and 2.4s.

My friend/fellow car club member just totalled his 'modded 97 GS actually......and right now he's deciding between a used GST and a used GSX....... I cant believe he actually found one of each locally on autotrader.

The Eclipse GS's ran a COMPLETELY different motor than the GS-T's did.

GS motor = 420A (Chrysler Product - It is what the SRT-4 motor is based on. I've actually seen SRT-4 owners use the 420A cams to gain Top End power.)

GS-T/GS-X motor = The Almighty 4G63 (Mitsu's Creation & Beast.)

And you see a lot more GS's... because they produced a lot more GS's. DUH! Not to mention the fact that a lot of GS-T's & GS-X's get blown up by people that don't know what they are doing.

also more GST/GSX's have probably been totaled or have been put on racing duty

I'd pay down your loan, and buy the TC down the road. I am sure the TC will have at least a 3 year production run like the SC

car maintenance = longevity

I just bought a 96 GTI 2.0 to commute... 123K and runs almost like new.... I plan on getting 300k out of her minimum

That's only 7-Bolt Motor's... you'll only see crankwalk, if you are a complete idiot. It takes a good 350-400+hp, in most cases, to get crankwalk. Anyone, who is anyone, in the DSM world... KNOWS that you just buy an Evo III motor (6-Bolt FTW) and swap it in.

My GF and I are about to get an 1990 AWD Talon ! 92's were best... 6-Bolt Engine & 4 Bolt rear end.

The one we are looking at has the Evo III 16G on it pushing a healthy 25psi. I'm sure it's got an AMS 2.3L Stroker in its future... and maybe a Hahn Super 20G

Yeah, its okay. I just think WAY TOO many people take the Crankwalk thing WAY too out of proportion. And most don't know a damn thing about it.

Riding around in my friends 92 AWD 16g Talon and we beat a 350Z... and he's like, "At least I don't have Crankwalk."

I just said, "You're a retard... we don't either. The only thing walking here, is this car away from yours!"

I lol'd.

I really hope my gf can sell her Camry soon so that we can pick up this Talon. It looks good... and should run REALLY good.

I have one currently. When it was running right is was faster than most vette's (with the mods I have). Reliability becomes an issue with high mileage EVERYTHING goes bad (ask me how many time a month I have to replace hose sections. Budget speed good, reliability, not so much. But yes, the majority of the reliability problems are form peopl going, "gee, that 60-1 looks like it will bolt up to the stock manifold, now i can run 35psi boost!" *BOOM* "what happened, the turbo bolted to the factory housing, it should work, right?" *slap face*. That is what happened to a lot of the Gs-Ts and GSXs. BTW you didnt have to pull a block out of an evo. Everything made 92.5 and prior had a 6 bolt in it. I was cheaper just to grab a junkyard block and go from there.
