Looking to buy in

So i've always loved the cobalt ss's. It all started when i was 14 (2004) and i fell in love with the car inside and out.

Finally I'm able to afford it and as a college student i'll have to make payments.

I'm currently looking at a 06 rally yellow SS/SC just had a few questions.

It has 70,xxx miles and just waiting for the dealer to give me a call on when i can come down and test drive it. I've only drove a 5 speed about 5 or 6 times but always rode dirt bikes / now my street bike. How's the clutch going to take it when i first start driving? I learn quick and will definitely have it within a week.

Also the reason it's not a dealer ship is because it was sent out for a timing chain replace, should this be a concern of future engine problem considering it's not a belt and shouldn't need replaced so soon?

My last concern is that it could possibly have been a fleet vehicle, which i don't know if i should consider it a good or bad thing?

I'm going to try and get it for $7k with my trade worth $2k, does that sound about right or should i try to go lower?

Thanks for looking, and also 1st post
Hello from Pittsburgh hopefully i can join the crew very soon!

Awesome, this gives me some hope. I hope the timing chain isn't going to shoot me down from wanting to buy it. I've wanted one FOREVER lol

very true, i would not be surprised if you could find a cheap 08 that you can afford monthly.

yeah i got mine off ebay from a dealer in Indianapolis 09 ss 5k miles and got it for 18k, it was a damn good deal at the time because most others were going for like 23k at the time. just make sure you look around alot and dont rush anything 70k miles is quite high.

check out this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-ch...#ht_500wt_1182

and if your worried about picking it up do what i did, flatbed that **** right to your driveway not too expensive either unless its cross country

Thumbs up

HEy, 70K ? wow. Im only at just over 40K.

The timing chain thing I believe is an issue with non-approved parts that got used on some of the cobalts engines.

It looks like your getting the same one I have. Is it the 2.4? or the 2.0?

The clutch learning curve is alot difrent then on an 89 S10 or a 97 Ranger.

I never rode a dirtbike so I don't know how that is. But I got used to mine alright.
Hope its good for you
All I can say is check for mods. SC Pully should be 3.3" I think, and the fuel injectors should be Green. If that is not the case, the car has been modifided.

I like mine
but
Find out why the other person is selling his/hers. Do all the normal buy a car stuff.
Enjoy
-Jonathan

It should be bone stock.

It's a dealer that probably picked it up at auction and gave it an inspection.

Hopefully going to test drive today!

Still not at the dealer.. now it's expected to be friday.

my usual mechanic advised me not buy it but i figure it's because he doesn't like force induction.

The timing chain issue is what made him told me to stay away.. lol

The timing chain issue was with certain cars made in 06. There is a TSB on it. As long as its fixed it wont be a problem down the road because the new ones wont have the issue.

Mine is an 07 SS/SC and was used by the previous owner as a fleet vehicle. Only problem I had was the clutch, it was slipping within the first month, but Chevy replaced that for free. Other than that, no problems at all.

Good luck

Sounds great. Thanks for the info everyone!

I haven't asked the dealer but will there most likely be the 5yr/100k mile warranty on an 06?

Before you go jumping into this deal, you should really consider looking around for an 08-09 SS. They're a helluvalot faster than the SC's and better build quality too. 70k miles is a little high on a car that you're going to be paying on for possibly 5 years. I have both the SC and TC and from experience, you're going to love the SC, but give it a year maybe and you're probably gonna wish you looked for a TC. I'm in the middle of trying to sell my SC right now too lol. Just my two cents.

You can buy mine for 10k!

05 Stage 2 100k miles. You can have the wheels, stockers, and random miscellaneous parts I've got.
