Looking for insight on cobalts...

Hello everyone, I'm looking at buying a cobalt sometime this week (fingers crossed... gotta rely on my dad to co-sign on the loan). Here's my predicament: They found a cobalt LT coupe that is ALMOST exactly what I want.

3LT package
5 spd manual
black ext. ebony cloth int.
sunroof
and a few other, non-issue options

My DREAM cobalt (obviously I'd prefer the SS/SC, but can't afford it)

3LT package
5 spd manual
black/ebony
Pioneer speakers
others...

My question to you is: Is the Pioneer speaker package worth the $300? Does it make that much of a difference? I'm not looking for a banging system or anything, I'd just prefer to listen to higher quality music. Would you recommend special ordering a car to have it in it or replace the stock speakers later on?

Thank you for your time and assistance in advance.

I would say so, you have 7 speakers instead of 4. The sub sounds real good and correct me if iam wring but it has the cool buttons on the wheel that the other one doesnt have. It has mp3

For 300 i think its a no brainer. MY suggestion, go for a coball SS/na. Its lsightly more expensive than what you are looking at, but has the SS/SC good looks and a little more power!!

Thanks guys! I know what I'll be doing now. I'll look into the SS 2.4 but I'm gonna be cutting it a little close with money on just the 2.2.

To be honest, if that's the only thing holding you back from getting the car you found, just get the one you found. I have the stock system and don't mind it at all. If you want, you can simply upgrade your system later.

I would go there talk to them and see what your intrest rate is going to be and have them show you the options based on payments and then you can really decide what you want. You can also talk them down a little bit and they may have some discounts.

I won't be financing through the dealership (I'm using my credit union - better rates... always). I think I'll have a listen to a stock radio and the premium (they've got both on their lot) and use that in my decision. I appreciate all of the help guys.

The only problem I've had while thinking about upgrading the stock is that there are more standard speakers with the Pioneer. I would either have to settle for less later or do some custom work.

Thanks again, I just don't want to make the wrong decision. I've worked WAAAY too many years in a restaurant to spend my money on something I won't be happy with.

if you dont' care if it's crazy, the stock system is fine... it's better than any that i've had in previous cars... and the lt has the buttons on the wheel...

Yeah, been thinking about it and talking it over with my dad. Think I might not spend the extra money and extra time (I'm antsy to get a new car... Honda with 229,000 isn't cutting it anymore ) I just have a tiny discrepancy with the dealer invoice; the invoice says it has leather seats but they told me it probably didn't. I'm looking into that tomorrow.

One more question (thanks for the patience guys) Do cobalts come with the console armrest stock or not? I can't find the information on chevy's website and even though it's pictured in all of chevy's stock photos I searched the forums and it looks like a lot of people had to install them themselves??? My dealer sucks, he can't give me any good information. On the bright side now that I have the VIN for the car I'm interested in I can switch dealerships and have them do a dealer trade for me .

Thanks for all the help and insight.

Yes, the 2.2's come with arm rests. The SS/SC's do not. (Not sure about the 2.4's though)

Hey FreakShow, what part of Illinois you in? I know of a place that would most likely have one that you want. And what year 2.2 or 2.4 are you looking for?

Bloomington/Normal. I'm looking for a 2007 LT coupe Black w/ Ebony interior. I'm being kinda picky with this vehicle, seeing as how I'm paying for my second vehicle in 2 years I want to get exactly what I want this time and not settle for what I can get. If you think there's something there though send me a linkie to the dealership website if possible. I'd be very appreciative .

Thanks again guys, you ROCK!

screw that whole deal. If you are going to a stealership go in there and haggle on an ss/sc get them as far down as you can then tell them they need to go lower and get ready to leave. I spent 5 hours at the stealership i got my trailblazer from to get my ss/sc. They gave me 20k for a 6 year old firebird with 40 thousand miles on it. everybody knows you can get a T/A for like 16 grand with like 20k miles on it. What i am trying to say is dont sell youeself short. If you know what you want try to get it and if the numbers dont work then you can always get the 2.2. the only thing you have to loose is a little bit of your time dealing with them.

They've got an SS/SC but it's $23,072 which is at least $5,000 out of my price range currently. If I bought the bad-boy after I got done with BCT and AIT I'd have my nice sign-on bonus and pay to boost me up to that price range. I just couldn't stand waiting almost an entire year to start driving a new vehicle. I've still got some thinking to do before I sign any papers, rest assured they'll be cobalt papers, I have to make sure I'm getting the perfect mix of what I want, what I can afford, and what will work best for me. Insurance would also be an issue for me on an SS/SC, I have a clean driving record, good student discount, multi-line discount, fleet discount and my quote for the 2.2 coupe is already $153 a month. I can only imagine what it would be for the SC too... I'll haggle with them but the money's the real issue. My parents are only co-signing on the loan, it's all coming out of my pocket.

For all of you over 25 with those low insurance rates, be happy you're not young again .

Yo bro, I'm 17 goin' on 18, so I'm in your boat. Why not get a 2.4 SS N/A? It should be around the same price raange for a 2005 or 2006.

Warranty. I LOVE the fact that 2007's come with the 5/100,000 warranty and there are other features that are new for '07 that I really want. My plan is, as stands, to do some simple do-it-yourself mods before BCT and AIT and when I get back (around next December) I'll have roughly $7,000 cash waiting to be spent without having to worry about tuition OR room and board. I'll be getting the GMPP intake, headers, and cat-back exhaust (to maintain warranty and support GM). When my warranty is up, I'm HOPING they'll have all the necessary tweaks figured out to drop the 2.0 supercharger on and I'll have enough spare change to do it. That's my plan. Things change, I'll try to haggle with the dealer for their SS/SC but they'll have to come off 4-6k. Highly unlikely, right? Thanks guys, you've all been VERY helpful and I can't wait to get my cobalt and join the club!

I dunno bro, I would most likely wait. I'm the kinda guy that wants all or nothing. Getting what I don't really wnat is like holding a slice of custard pie in my face saying I can only smell it. I like to hold off until I can get all or nothing. I'd still say get a SS/NA or a older model SS/SC

We'll see, I'll crunch some more numbers and maybe I"ll be able to afford the SS/SC. Damn you guys, I was SOOO sure what I wanted until about an hour ago . I'll be going to the dealership tomorrow (if my dad feels up to it... I hate relying on other people). I'll keep you guys updated. Any tips on haggling to get them to drop the price hard on the SS/SC?

just because the window saays $23,072 that doesnt mean you are going to buy it for $23,072. You would be suprised what a dealer can do if he realy wants to get that car of the lot. Dont get something you dont realy want. you have to be in it everyday and you have to look at it everyday.

You're right, I realize that they come off the sticker price quite a bit sometimes. I've also looked at, to the best of my knowledge, EVERY aspect of the monetary issues involved with the purchase of a new vehicle such as tax, tag, and title. Those right there will tack on almost $1,500 onto the loan cost in ADDITION to the extra warranty I'm looking at through my credit union. Don't forget that as soon as you slap a turbo or supercharger on it becomes considered a "sports car" by insurance companies. I'm under 25 and male; you all know what that means .

Anyway, got approved for the loan today and talked with the salesman my dad's bought 4 cars from today. He's gonna cut me a deal and sell me my custom ordered cobalt for a few hundred over dealer invoice. I should be ordering sometime in the next two weeks, it's going to be an LT because that's all I can afford right now and I know I'll be happy with it.

I would like to thank all of you for your help and insight; it has been very helpful and informative in my decision making process.

good for u man. but i was gonna suggest something. how much is this LT going to be? i know u want a new car and all i dont blame u. i had a 1991 buick park avenue with 186000 miles on it. but i must say that id buy one of the used SS/SC on this website. they are cheaper and the guys have already done some mods. i saw one for 17,000 ish on here. just look under classifieds and loot at FS cars.

heres a link
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/complete-cars-101/

when i saw this car for sale i woulda forked over some extra dough on this. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/complete-cars-101/fs-2006-ss-sc-35405/

and this one https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/complete-cars-101/%2A%2A06-black-ss-s-c-sale-%2A%2A-25449/

just saying man. these cars are basically new. and im just trying to help. my cars an LS i got for 12,000 flat basically. no options of power windows, got a manual, basic stereo. its great for me. but bout a month in i got the speed fever and wanted something faster. and trust me when i say this. an extra 5 grand for and SS/SC goes a long way.

whatever ur decision is i hope its one that YOU like best. best of luck to you and ur car. safe driving

I offered to sell him my 2.4 SS silver sedan 5 speed for $15,500 or take over the smart buy for $285 per month with no downpayment etc. My car has been in the rain 3 times for about 10 minutes total and just sits in the garage (I have a company car). IT ONLY HAS 8K miles on it. I never drive it. Was willing to throw in the Vector ECu tune and Injen CAi as well. I think he has his mind on a 2.2 for some reason.

I guess there's nothin wrong with wanting a new car but a FASTER slightly used car with more options for about the same money confuses me....oh well. I 'm getting old I guess....

With that in mind I wouldn't buy a new car then. Thats just IMO. If that is what you can afford and its what you really like. Go for it....just becareful not to cut it to close. You may need cash for a rainy day. Trust me on that one...Good luck, hope it works out for you.
